10 out of 10 of my aftershave splashes are alcohol based. This is 99.99% likely because 1) the artisan only offers alcohol based or 2) the artisan offers non-alcohol based but contains synthetic preservatives. The entire reason I started using artisan products is because they did not use synthetic preservatives, but I see some do or are starting to.

I do understand why people are furious about the the different bases. Before GD, there was this company, let's just call it by their initials, VY. I wanted to get a soap from them, however due to their different ingredients for each different, in the end I got nothing from them as it is pretty intimidating to know that what I purchase might not be the best base they are offering.
Forward one year later, I have the same issue with GD of having too much different base.
What I want is... your best base.
I did buy Mallard after reading countless amount of review, that it claims to be the better base.
Now there are lamb tallow and beef tallow, how will they stack up? It does steered me away from this company slightly.
Mohamed, if you release that so call soap where money is not an issue. Trust me, I will be in for it.
Cause what I want from any company, is their best base. I am not looking for the best performance soap, I love variety. Which is why from each company, I would just want to buy the best soap base from them.
So right now I am waiting for more reviews of the lamb and beef tallow.
Don't get me wrong, I love how Mohamed is standing behind his company to innovate. But the vast amount of base is really stopping me purchasing anymore from Mohamed until everything is more or less finalise.
I will have my first shave with Mallard next week. I have high expectation for it.

Thank you for your order, I hope you enjoy Mallard, I look forward you thoughts on it.
I explained in this post that I'm only going to have three bases. Vegan, Tallow and Duck, within each, periodically I'll be making limited/special edition releases.
For example, the lamb tallow is a limited release and won't probably be around beyond January. I'll put a note on the soap's page it's a seasonal limited release. Thank you for brining this up.
None of the 3 formulas will change or get upgrades for the next 12 months.

This is just my opinion, but it’s funny to me that anyone would be holding out on purchasing a Grooming Dept Soap because they are waiting on the next Soap release because they have to have the latest and greatest or “best” Soap base. Mohammad’s Soaps are outstanding in both scent and performance, and every version I’ve tried has been excellent. I doubt that any one of us could tell the difference between one release and the next that has one or two ingredients added or tweaked out of a list of twenty. Mohammad has already decided on three bases as well as special editions. This is shaving Soap we’re talking about, very very good shaving Soap. Enjoy it! Be Happy that Mohammad is constantly trying to improve upon and perfect his craft! I would imagine making Soaps or doing anything else at a high level is an art form, and I would hate for Mohammad to not be able to use his creativity because it upset people because they don’t like the idea of an ingredient or two being tweaked or changed. Grooming Dept. Soaps are some of the best I’ve ever used, and if Mohammad wants to continue working to make them even better, I’m all for it!

I think it's great that we all put our opinions here and all are equally important.
When I give mine, I am clear to state that it is mine and don't try to tell other people how to think. I think that's probably helpful.
While I have my preferences, I am thrilled with the soap. And I do feel free to make my opinions known. I think we all should.
That's one of the advantages to a soap maker here. They get the chance to hear actual customers opinions not just one person who's trying to shape all of our opinions.
I have found Mohammad to be very responsive to my thoughts and ideas. To that end, I'm grateful. Not that my ideas are always acted upon. I don't expect them to be. But if we don't say them, he won't know.
I hope all of us here feel comfortable in sharing our opinions. And I hope we don't allow one person to try to act like they speak for us.
We may or may not agree on all things. Mohammad can pick and choose those things that he likes.
That's why they have the little like button at the bottom of the page. LOL We can always click it when we like what someone says. But no one needs to try to shape all of our opinions by attempting to speak for us.
I am very capable of speaking for myself.

Based on the results. The first aftershaves release will be 6 alcohol based after shaves and 4 alcohol free I'll post the scents next week.
I’m looking forward to these, especially the alcohol versions! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Most artisans want a very serviceable formula so there can put a a variety of fragrance in. Mohammad is indeed playing with being creative with scents but it seems like the performance of each unique base in what is more important. That doesn't mean it has to always change or get updated. But I'm sure it allows something to be learned from each formulation. I don't think you can really ask what is the best formula as they are all different, aka, YMMV. If the lamb formula works best for Mohammad, that doesn't mean it is universally the best for everyone else.
My suggestion aerolord is to get one of the animal fatted ones and see how well it fairs for your skin. If you like, you may be fine with just one soap or you may want to try the other formulations.
