Go to Pomade?

Working Wax by hairevolution is what my barber uses and I was impressed enough to purchase a jar.  It is water soluble, considered medium hold, and has a matte finish.  I use it a lot.

Oh boy! Just what I need in my already fast vanishing hair.

I have been pondering the constructive use of Crazy Glue.

My pomade collection is about 15 to 20 pomades at the moment I think. A few I've finished off and others I have on the way. It varies between water based, oils and clay depending on the day and week.

Here is my collection with 19 various pomades and 1 more in the mail and maybe a few more I'll get this weekend.



Top row is oil based pomade, just started with these and like them going to add more.

Second row are clay

Third and Forth rows are unorthodox water based pomade my most used pomade base.

Fifth row is water based gel type and a matte pomade on the far right. My previous most used but only works when my hair is very short.

I have finished about 5 jars this year, just recently bought a few more and a few more in that photo are below 50% so will finish soon hopefully.

Which of those do you consider to have the least shine? I like my hair to have a natural-look rather than wet/shiny.

Hair type comes into play as well. Most pomades do indicate what the shine level is. I'd say the Black Ship is pretty neutral and the Nostalgic Grooming is as well.

Clays are also on the neutral side for shine the Flag Ship Dead Sea clay is really good. I'd say avoid Matte Pomade they are flat but really make the hair look and feel dry.

Nostalgic water based barbershop. That's my jam.

Unorthodox approach: I actually use a Burt’s Bees Hand Salve as a pomade of sorts. The ingredient list is similar to what’d you’d find in a natural pomade (and probably pay a lot more for - I pay around 8 dollars for 3oz tin that lasts months), a variety different fruit/seed oils and beeswax. It’s got a light hold on it’s own, but if you combine it with about 15 seconds of blow drying I’ve found it told hold my hair how I want it all day. I use about half a thumbnail’s worth. The primary benefit for me is how soft my hair stays compared with anything else I’ve used. It leaves almost no shine, just the little bit that healthy hair has normally.
