I think the same, but we recently witnessed the failure of Elvado to catch on even though it was in some mainstream Canadian stores. Makes me wonder.

Did El Vado go out of business? We carried them last year but cleared them out because they weren't selling well. I see the site is down. Details? Thx

Yes he closed shop in September. This is what I received from Stonefield Shaving newsletter :
“Breaking News!
It is with deep regret that we announce that Elvado will be ceasing operations. John will be moving on to pursue other life interests and challenges.
We were honoured that John was willing to let us sell his products in our online store. We were proud to support this Canadian Brand. I wish John and his family all the best for the future. When one door closes, another one opens. “

So, way back in the late 1920s Gillette acquired Rotbart company from Germany.....they had a closed scalloped comb razor. The DE89/R89 is based on that design...Gillette’s heritage razor is most likely an R89 head seeing as it’s made in Germany. In essence Gillette has come full circle with the heritage razor being a razor head inspired by a company they owned in the 20s in some weird way
“Rotbart was an independant European (German) maker bought out by Gillette in 1927 and continued to produce as Rotbart under the Gillette ownership for a time..... This buyout allowed Gillette to use many of the Rotbart designs and patents, and for a period of time after WWII, it was not clear whether Rotbart (still existing as a brand name) was copying the Gillettes, or Gillette copying the Rotbarts.”
If you really want to be picky the super speeds were really Valet Autostrop engineers and not Gillette’s I believe. Matt at razor emporium would know for sure.
All this to say, Gillette has its fingerprints all over it.
