keto, I'm looking forward to dehydrating my first fresh pineapple.  I also plan on bananas somewhere down the road.  I recently dehydrated an onion and turned it into onion powder.  I am amazed at how sweet the onion flavor is.  Yesterday, I just steamed some fresh spinach for my dinner vegetable and the only thing I added was a sprinkling of the onion powder.  It was so good!  Like the tomato powder I made, it tends to clump because there are no additives in it to prevent that.  I just use a small salt cellar spoon or 1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon to break up the clumps and sprinkle the powder on the food.  I may never buy commercial onion powder again.

Freddy  great job with the onion powder. That powder does sound tasty. I've not tried that.
I thought about trying to do something with tomatoes because we grow our own but the wife cans them. Yummy.
It's kind of fun to use those dehydrators. We were using mom's and then bought just a few months ago. Hers was pretty big and heavy to move back and forth.

So many are.  Even smaller ones can have a larger footprint than is practical for me.  The one I posted today is about the size of a toaster oven and is quite light which makes it easy to store when not in use.  I am amazed at how much I have used the dehydrators since getting them only a few months ago.

Toaster, wow that's probably real handy.
It's kind of fun with great benefits.

keto and Lipripper660, when you do bananas in the dehydrator, do they come out crunchy or do they have a bit of give when you bite into them?

I've  done them where they were crispy but I like them where they're little flexible with a little bit of chew. Those banana chips are sweet.

I’m with keto on this one.  I take them bone dry if they need to last but I like them better if they are a bit chewy.

Mine is an old American Harvest Snackmaster and we use it for several reasons.  I like to grow herbs but my plant production window is only about 90 days. I can dehydrate them to bottle and use when the snow flies.  Not as good as fresh but better than commercial.  I make fruit leather in season because grand kids like it.  I dry fruits and veg from the garden to keep it long term in the event of need but they really do make great soups and stews.  The fruit?  I just really like snacking on it.  And yes, I like refrigerator art better than the Louvre.

Thanks, keto and Lipripper660, for the input.  I would prefer them a bit chewy, I think.  Any ideas on how long (and at what temperature if your unit allows for temperature variations) to dehydrate for a chewy consistency?

Lipripper, if that fridge art is by your grandchildren then expect to have to travel to the Louvre in another 20 years to see just how good they are. Winking
