Feather Artist Club SS, the redheaded stepchild of razors

My only traditional straight so far is a Gold Dollar, and I haven't decided yet whether traditional SRs are for me. My stropping technique is still hit or miss, and I'm not sure I have the skills and patience for honing. In the meantime, the Feather Artist Club DX has become my gold standard. I like the weight, balance and face-feel of it even better than the SS (which is a fine razor in its own right). The blade is always "shave-ready", and I feel I don't have to work as hard to get a close shave as I do with the GD. Both of my Feather ACs are fixed-handle (kamisori-style) models, and I seem to find this easier to maneuver than a folding handle. If I do get into traditional SRs, I may be going the kamisori route.  

PS: Yes, shavettes are unforgiving, but the Feathers are less unforgiving than shavettes that take DE blades. If you can shave with one of those, you can shave with anything. (I had my first shave with the Equinox full-DE-blade shavette yesterday and it went well, as I mentioned in another thread.)

I cut myself more times in 1 week of head shaves with a true shavette than I have in 3 months of head shaves with a traditional straight...

Of course, I am the only person I know that cut their finger shaving. Not just a nick, either, I mean a gusher of a cut. Trying to line up the top of my sideburns, got my arms crossed up and my finger got in the way of the blade. Bled for a half hour or more before it finally stopped...THAT happened with a traditional straight, just a couple days ago!

The first time I tried a shavette, 4 or 5 years ago, I gave up after one shave. It was a Parker that took a half DE blade. I'm sure I would have been better off with a regular SR. On the other hand, I suspect I just wasn't ready for straight shaving of any kind back then.

Oh, it happens. I forget how I did this to myself, but it was with a razor, a few years ago. And it wasn't pretty when it happened. This picture was taken a day or two after the occurrence. (I'm happy to report that my thumb grew back. )

I managed to get my finger chopper in video. I didnt post it to youtube or anything, but I happened to be recording when it happened. Makes me cringe when I watch it...

I think I jinxed myself, I got a vertical cut along my chin today, not while shaving but while maneuvering the SS razor :/

No worries, I did the exact same thing last week, except it was a horizontal cut on my neck. I had just finished shaving and was thinking, "Wow, this is easy!" Famous last words....
