Feather Artist Club SS, the redheaded stepchild of razors

I put a long post under Safety Razors, since I know that a lot of straight razor fans shun shavettes (who wouldn't, with a name like "shavette"?), and while I don't think of my Feather Artist Club SS non folding as a shavette--I think of it as a badass that's become my best friend--I was concerned that I'd get flamed out of here for posting it in the straight razor section.

To make a long story short, I started with a straight, switched to a Feather AC for awhile, and when I went back to the straight I found it was easy to use--much for forgiving, as they say, than the Feather. I really like my straight but I'm finding that I love my Feather. I'm getting shaves that are even more comfortable with it than I often get with my DE's (yesterday I used my ATT with an R1 plate for a change of pace with a Feather DE and found the shave felt harsh compared to the AC; I also happen to prefer the Feather AC blades to the Feather DE blades. For some reason, I find the AC blades milder, whether in an AC or a Mongoose).

Anyway, am wondering if there are any other AC lovers here. Would like to hear about your experiences. Even if you're an AC hater, I'd be interested. Am looking forward to maybe getting the fancy all stainless model, maybe for Christmas so I can semi-justify it to myself and my tolerant wife.

Why would anyone do that?  I have never used the Feather Artist Club SS and this is the place where I can learn more so have at it. (and pics, please, if possible. ).  For some, shavettes are that bridge from DE/SE to straight razors so, in my opinion, I think this is exactly the place to discuss them.

I own and use Feather ACSS folding/non-folding and straight razors.  no one should flame you or hate on anything dealing with shaving.  It's a hobby that people enjoy. If someone gets on you about it, tell em to kiss your ass.  I agree with you.  I get better and closer shaves from the Feather.  The blades are amazingly sharp and smooth.  My Feathers are in my weekly rotation.  On the other hand, straights are more forgiving for me.  plus, there's just something about shaving with a Wade and Butcher or another make that was made in the late 19th early 20th century.    End of the day, it's shaving. Have fun with it !

I have a feather Artist club folding version and it owes me absolutely nothing.  It gives great shaves every time, no stropping no honing.  I drop it, I bump it, And I ignore it from time to time, but it is always there and ready to go at a moments notice.  Yes there is the art of shaving which includes the stropping, touch ups on a 15,000 stone, and oiling after a shave, but it all takes a lot of time and after my son was born, time became very, very valuable. I reduced my straights down to three and the fourth is my beloved feather.  If I ever sell the last of my straights, the feather would be the last to go.

I have the SS Non-Folding version and love it! Its my favorite razor by far. I can get BBS shaves from it almost every time I use it. I do agree with you that it doesn't really get the respect it deserves. I would say that its on its own level separate from normal Shavettes but traditionalist wont claim it as a Straight Razor either.  So not sure what it falls under, just SE razor category? I guess its still a Shavette at heart but maybe these can be coined as the Shavette of the Gods haha. Nevertheless it's a great razor and should get more love IMO.

Also hope I don't offend anyone by saying that "Traditionalist" wont claim it. This forum is very different from others I've seen. Seems like everyone here is all about the spirit of Wet Shaving and to have fun and enjoy this hobby we share. In my own experience and I'm sure stroppinglad 's too there is a group of people in other forums who hold themselves to a higher level and bite people's heads off for things like this. I started Wet Shaving with a Shavette and those types of people shied me away from forums.

Dear Zachary (aka "my brother Feather lover")--thanks for the reply. And yes, this is a very different forum, with users who, so far, seem sane and respectful. I heard about from Chris Bailey on youtube, and Chris is keen on keeping the ire and the backbiting and the flaming out of the hobby. I agree. This is shaving. We've found a way to turn a chore into one of the best parts of the day. I love this forum! And thanks again for your insights into the SS non-folding. Which blades do you prefer?

Yes! They're far smoother, for my face, than the Feather DE blades. I find the Kai Captain Mild gives a harsh two shaves at first, then it calms down and gets smooth. Am considering corking the next one. The Feathers are smooth right from shave one, and they stay that way. They also have great longevity. I love the Mongoose as well! Have a great 4th of July BBS.

I must first of all make it perfectly clear tha I'm NOT speaking from experience here, but from reading an article on a British forum I frequent. There was quite a long thread on the various blades to use in a mongoose razor which I found quite interesting. There seemed to be another blade found and liked by all who tried it. It is a Kamisori blade, and the overall opinion seemed to be, it was cheaper, as sharp and longer lived( around 15 shaves) than most of the well known makes. If this is of interest to anyone then happy days
