favorite bay rum products

BPman, it's very difficult to do and still have a traditional bay rum. The only way to do it and have the scent last a very long time is to add scents to it that are long lasting. But that changes the entire scent and IMO they are no longer traditional bay rum but something else entirely. Lots of folks would disagree with me on that, but I refer to traditional bay rum scent. Its easy enough to get the reference scent... just get some Pimenta racemosa essential oil, mix it with alcohol and apply it to the skin. What you have just made and applied is essentially traditional bay rum. But as soon as it evaporates the scent is gone, as you mentioned. But it's a fantastic scent for as briefly as it's there.

I have many bay rum aftershaves and I find them all to be among the most long lived of all my aftershaves fragrance wise.

if you had to pick a favorite bay rum though, which is your choice?  

Like Sophie's Choice, make me pick my favourite child  Even though its technically not a bay rum I'd say Blackberry Blossom Bay for all around awesomeness.  If I'm restricted to picking from true bay rums.....its either Barrister and Mann's or Ogallala Special Reserve Double-Strength Bay Rum but I'll give honourable mention to Krampert's Finest, Captain's Choice, TOBS, GFT, Stirling, PAA/Crown King/HTGAM, St. John's, D.R.Harris, CB, Royall Bay Rhum, Clubman Virgin Island......

Has anyone ever tried Czech & Speake Cuba After Shave? Is it a bay rum?  Its a bit pricey and I'm not prepared to buy it on spec.  I've been able to get samples of most other C&S but not Cuba.

I might have to look for some of that Ogallala bay rum as I never heard of it before.

I forgot to mention Dominica Bay Rum - it was staring at me as soon as I opened the cabinet door last night with that "what? Now I'm chopped liver?" look. Its a good one, traditional as ShadowsDad says so it won't last all that long either.

andrewjs18 , you can find Ogallala at Fendrihan - the aftershave toner is nice on the skin. There are several scents in addition to the straight bay rum - they all say bay rum on the label but the only ones that are bay rum say nothing but bay rum if that makes sense. My other Ogallala favourites are Lime and Peppercorns and Sage and Cedar. Sandalwood is ok but their Vanilla is waaaay to potently vanilla for me.

Right now I have my hands full enough with what I currently make (and my retirement). So I have no plans for that. I need to clone myself.

I recently tried the Bay Rum from Chiseled Face, and I have to say I'm a big fan of it so far. It has a little bit of vanilla on the back end, and sometimes I get a whiff of cola but that could just be my half broken nose. I really enjoy it.

Sadly, the after shave irritates my skin. I’m super bummed. Bay rum splashes that work well for my skin are barrister and Mann and Gilbert Henry.
