UPDATE:

I’ve been asked a lot about upcoming releases both new and old. So I thought I’d run down a list of some of both that for sure will be made. Some new ones I have committed to I’d like to keep as a surprise so you may see them pop up between some of the ones on the list below. You know I’ll let you know when we have the artwork done and they’re close to being made. As you see below I have a to do list but as you know I have to squeeze in some of the standards when they run low or out but those I won’t mention as they are very Sporadically made as needed.

So here is my to do list that I can mention at this time.

1. Old - Dragonsbeard - this is first up for October 1st.
2.  New - Russian Tea - this will be released very shortly after Dragonsbeard. Also a new Collection the “ Café Collection” this fall and winter will see at least one more in this collection and maybe two.
3. Old - Blue Note - this will be in the new F Base and more products added with the scent. I may be able to make that at the same time as the Russian Tea.
4. New- Never Sleeps - this is going into the Niche Boutique Collection as it’s a Cologne type scent. It will be sold only at Pasteur’s Pharmacy and the ETHOS website. As soon as the label is finished I’ll post it up and provide the Aroma profile and no it’s not the one I’ve sent out samples of. That’s a different project that’s further down the road.
5. Old - Lost Souls- it’s been calling me to make that this fall and some new products will be added with the Aroma.
6. New- Fougère- this is not a fancy modern complex Fougère but a 100% natural one ( no synthetics ) I’ve been working on for a long time now.
7. Old - Mandarino Fumo - I’ve been playing with the aroma blend and I’ve decided to leave it as it was except I added more of the citrus so it opens up the way it was supposed to on the last run and a little organic Oakmoss Absolute way at the bottom for a little more foundation.

Well that’s enough for now.

Great shaves!

Thanks very much Hercules34.  The brush was made by Bob Quinn, a vendor who supports this site.  You can find his offerings at  eliterazor.com, and he often shows them here on DFS, in this thread.

UPDATE:

The Dragonsbeard F Base Shave Soap is made and I have to say although I haven’t used it yet I have this feeling this may be the best batch I’ve ever made scent wise at least or maybe it was just me but the air in the warehouse was filled with the scent and I forgot how much I enjoy the scent. My older versions were victims of the fire I had back in March. I did add one extra drop of the extremely potent Cambodian Oud Resin which is very thick. When you use this you have to be very careful as it’s super powerful. I let my assistant Annette take a whiff of it straight out of the bottle and she was OMG that’s to strong. ( she’s smelled the older Aroma Blend which we we out of ) this is a brand new batch and after I let her smel that she’s like I can smell it but totally different in the blend. I was like yes very but can you imagine what a few extra drops would do in 32 oz? That’s how strong it is. I mentioned to her that in some areas of the world that people that can afford this wear it just as it is. I tried that once and if you don’t wash it off it can last days. How’s that for longevity. Note this is different than the Argawood/ Oud essential oil that makes up a much bigger part of the Aroma blend. Anyway the scent came out beautifully with that one extra drop.

Oh and there are 20 of the Limited Edition version that’s in the Black Glass Jars which some are already spoken for by folks that pre ordered them. Oh and if anyone is wondering why it’s $2.00 more it’s just to help cover the cost of the jars as I had to pay quite a bit more for them this time than the last time I bought them 4 years ago.

The 4.5 oz Jars are different as I decided to not use those black PET thin walled jars I’ve used in the past as they are such a PITA to use as they can’t take the heat of the shave soap and I loose about 2 to 3 out of 10 as they bend and become disfigured and you can’t put the side label on. So I’m using the normal clear PETG jars and it still looks good with a black lid and the black labels. I do like the look of the all black glass jars much better and I plan to have some custom black PETG jars made in the future as another soap maker and myself are going to split a batch as they are quite expensive and both of us would only use them for limited releases. This soap maker has been using the clear PET thin walled  jars for all their soaps and having the same problem with them bending with the heat so we went in together on the latest batch of the much better PETG clear jars I normally use in my 4.5 oz size jars Another well known soap maker friend of mine wanted to come in on this purchase but he’s in Canada and the shipping costs and customs made it price prohibitive for him. Nowadays it’s a good thing for some of us to work together since everything has gone up in price so much. I know there’s a well known group of soap makers that have unified and are now getting their HDPE jars from China and they have lowered their unit cost considerably by doing this group buying. In fact after talking to one of them who’s in the group and a friend explained to me how this works. Just you know after my talks with him I did some quick math and I’m paying almost double just for my brushed aluminum lids I use than their paying for their jar, lids and labels. From a cost standpoint I could go to a quality lid as my jar manufacturer makes very high quality ones that are not cheap but still quite a bit less expensive than the aluminum ones but I like the look of the brushed aluminum ones and I know that many of my customers do as well and one told me it is one of the things that defines your brand. So as long as I can get them I’m not changing that and I’ll never use anything other than the super high quality PETG jars for my soaps. MDC helped me get my 7.5 oz ones from France a ways back but now my manufacture in the US can custom make them for me and I won’t have to deal with the shipping to the US thing plus their minimum order requirements are lower so not as big a layout of cash.

These times are very difficult for many soap makers as costs for everything that goes into making one jar of soap has gone up at least 15 to 25% since shortly after Covid hit us. So if your favorite brands have a dollar or so price increase now and then understand why as they have no other alternatives other lowering the quality of their products which honestly of the ones I’m friends with none of them are willing to do that. So I stand behind them. It wasn’t long ago I saw on another form get bashed so bad for having a $2.00 price increase on his jars of soaps and although I couldn’t post in the thread to support him and why he had no other choice some of my customers went in and had his back and I was very happy to see that. I’m glad when I started ETHOS I stated my priced are based on what’s in the jars. Example a pure 100% Tonka Bean or Rose Shave soap is going to cost more than one with Orange essential oils in it as those two aromatic ingredients cost considerably more. There’s where using synthetics are different . A synthetic Rose or Tonka Bean is really no different than an Orange or Lavender. This is even more pronounced when using already made fragrance oils that are usually used in candle making and bar soap making. Heck I just got an emai from a US supplier on a bunch of new fall scents like pumpkin spice and spicy wood etc and they are like $3.95 an oz. Here’s a good example. At a US suppler of Candle and Soap making supplies Rose fragrance oil is $2.77 an oz. Where as synthetic Rose aroma chemical at a quality US perfume supplier is $14.00 an oz. Real Bulgarian Rose Absolute at one creditable US supplier is $264.00 an oz so there’s a huge difference between a already made fragrance oil, a Aroma chemical perfume ingredient and the real thing. So some soap makers just use a candle fragrance oil or mix some of them. Others who have taken classes or are self taught that know how to create scents using aroma chemicals or have a professional or a student of perfumery develop synthetic aroma bends for them. While others study natural perfumery and aromatherapy who create all natural aromas are what really make up the full spectrum of shave soap makers. An each one has their own lane and at completely different price points. Of course packaging also contributes greatly to which lane they’re in price wise. Anyway I  thought I’d share this with this information to maybe help some of you guys have a little more knowledge when making choices when picking out a new Shave Soap and a scent.

Lastly I’ll be releasing Derma Boost later this week or on Monday and I’ll do a more in depth write up on that product.

All the best

Excellent SOTD Photo my friend and that’s a nice Simpson brush. I think they sometimes don’t get the credit for how good they are essentially in their very best badger knots.
