I know this is not about shave soap or shave cream but I’m very happy and sort of proud to announce that ETHOS Grooming Essentials Mysore Santal EDT is now officially Registered on Basenotes.  This was accomplished by a customer of mine who is very active on their and a collector of fine fragrances who decided it should be up on the website. I’m very grateful to him for doing this because he truly likes the product and I won’t post his screen name up here and if he wants to make himself known then he will as I’m sure he will see this post.

I gotta say I have some amazing customers!

Thank you all for the support and encouragement you give me and ETHOS.

I know right..it’s been an on going discussion with not only sone of my customers who have the EDT but also with myself and  there’s one problem. Sandalwood is only as strong as the essential oil is naturally and I’ve got like 6 difficult ones in my EO library and the Vintage 1936 is the Strongest along with some good Royal Hawaiian and the Mysore I use in the Mysore Santal Skin Food Splash and EDT.
So here’s the real problem if I’d were to up the percentage to let’s say 28% which is definitely in the upper EDP range percentage wise and I’ve tried that but even at that percentage it’s still in the EDC/EDT area as far as projection, longevity and Silage. If I go any higher it’s not going to spray, meaning the sprayer will get clogged and I also tried that. So my thought are to go directly to an extract which is the highest percentage of fragrance in the perfume world. So that would bring the percentage up to right around 40% so that leaves a Roller Ball type of application as the only real option. The other problem is at 40% the cost would be either quite expensive to very expensive depending on which Sandalwood oil I use and to keep it Mysore that leaves only two. The regular Mysore or the Vintage.

The only way I could accomplish it would be to make ot more reasonably priced is to combine the real Mysore with a Mysore Aroma Accord. Of course it won’t be 100% natural but it would make it stronger in scent for sure.

I’ve have made some EDT/EDCs in the little 15 ml spray bottles using the Vintage 1936 for some custom orders at 30% and along with the Mysore wood chips in it and i tell my customers if left for a couple of months to infuse it’s going to have some good punch to it but it’s so damn expensive that if it were in a 2 oz size I’m embarrassed to post up what that would cost.

Honestly it’s been driving me to drink lately and I was almost tempted to do a poll to see how members would feel about it not being 100% natural.

As you may or may not know I’m working on a Sandalwood shave soap that some of the members requested that was similar to the Fine Absolute that’s no longer available or the AOS Vintage and make it so it’s reasonable in price. Neither of them were pure Sandalwood oil but a blend that was just more Sandalwood forward so that helps keep costs down by having the other much less expensive oils in it or in the case of the Fine probability all synthetic fragrance oils with maybe a small token of the real EO but I can tell from sniffing them both that the Vintage AOS had some real Sandalwood EO in it where’s the Fine was all Synthetic and if it had any real Sandalwood in the aroma blend like I said it was probably just a couple drops for label claim.  In the cosmetic industry we have a term. It’s called “ Blessing The Batch “ and it’s ramped in the hair are industry.

I feel better I got that out!  Big Grin

In regards to a sandalwood scent, I wouldn't care if it was not 100% all natural. One of my favorites was from Panna Crema shave soap early on and I think it was sandalwood and incense but it had a very nice, smooth and sweet side to it and I don't think it was all EO or natural extracts. That's my best guess but as long as it smells good, I am happy to avoid the most pure form that may be weaker and more expensive.

Frank sent me the new Ethos Grooming Mélange d'Agrumes shaving cream and a bar of Peppermint body shave soap to try. I'll be trying them soon, making lather for face shaving with the bar, and posting my impressions. Both smell great in their dry state. Thanks, Frank!
