Frank - I think you should use whatever makes the best product. I mean saying they won’t use pig fat on their face, while cow is ok? That SHOULD make very little sense to anyone IMO.

Also isn’t a large population of this planet Hindu? And cows are sacred to them? So, now we can’t use that either?

I guess my point is to just make the best soap you can and to hell with the rest. If it’s that good, people will use it and buy it. I’m sure most of the folks that object about Manteca have used a&e and don’t read ingredient lists. I also assume that most of them eat bacon and put animal fat in their body. As far as “chewing cud”….again look at the cow.

I agree with Kehole. Catering to Stupid is hard... There's no shortage of that.

There's no bottom.

Just do you.

I get it guys and as you mentioned you ain’t never going to please everyone even if you give them pure Gold in a bottle.

I did do quite a bit of testing using different fats for my soon to be released F Base including Manteca and others and in the end the fat that for me and my testers that came out on top was the Grass Fed Bison Tallow.  I will admit there are some fats I wouldn’t use cause of where they came from. Polar Bear Fat, Tiger Fat, Elephant Fat or Dragons Fat would be a no goes for me! Love those beasts to much! lol

An believe me I do me all the time. I don’t follow what others do and I try to stay in my own lane.  I know some folks won’t ever purchase my products for whatever their reason and I’m ok with that.  I can’t or should I say won’t put out a product that I don’t feel good about sending out the door.  I keep trying to improve my products every time I go into the labs.  It’s just in my DNA as a person.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys!

BTW I really dislike whining! Big Grin

At the end of the day, it’s your business and your product line.  You could put anything you want in your products.  You ask the questions, we give “OUR” answers

When it comes to skin care, tallow is a better product, but you knew that, you’ve been in cosmetics for a minute.  Whilst it’s true lard is rich in vitamin d and vitamin d is good for your skin; tallow is clinically proven to have a larger (variety) vitamin content and nutrients. Tallow with its variety of vitamins and minerals is a better choice for healing and soothing skin (to my understanding)

You make a very good point about which materials you won’t put in your products, just like the consumer selecting which products they won’t purchase for whatever their reasons; religious, financial, health (allergies)

This is a fun thread, I learn new things from fun threads.  Example: from this thread I learned things may not be what they seem, read the label, understand exactly why you’re paying a premium because what’s in there is not a premium product after all, yet the price is

Gotta run, me and BillyJoe Bob are jumping into the pickup and stopping for triple baconators on the way to the gym

Your right! This is a fun thread. Hopefully informative as well like so many threads on DFS.  Wether we are sharing our shaving experiences, asking questions about Shave soap,s Razor or shave brushes. I also agree people should read ingredient lists so they know what their buying or in the case of cosmetics what their putting on their face, body and hair. Oh and I wish I was only in cosmetics for a minute! That would make me around 29 yrs younger as it’s been that long since I made my first shampoo. Lol

On the tallow issue. I think I’ve covered it. My primary fat is Grass Fed Beef tallow with Duck fat being my secondary fat and followed by Grass Bison Tallow in my new F Base. In my M Base I use the same primary and secondary fats and sometimes add Camel Hump fat an especially if I’m using Camel milk in the formula as it’s great for the skin with good detoxifying properties to it.

Tallow is all the thing you mentioned as far as skin benefits and in fact I’ll be coming out with a new tallow based product in the near future.

I use a lot of skin beneficial ingredients in my formulas that are not fats, butters and oils that have much smaller more active molecules that go much deeper into the skin to perform multiple tasks. My EOS Complex contains 36 of those type ingredients like Hyaluronic acid as an example which has incredible moisturizing benefits to it to help improve the skin with continuous use.
My EOS Complex is a very expensive ingredient. Also using essential oils, resins, wood oils and CO2 extracts for my aroma blends cost a lot more than synthetic fragrance oils as a couple of examples. My packaging is also quite expensive compared to the normal HDPE plastic jars & lids more commonly used and that’s just my choice on how I want my products to look and function. If it were readily available I’d use glass jars for my soaps for my soaps and not only because of environmental issues with using plastics but because I use so many natural ingredients glass is a much better environment for the ingredients I use.

What bugs me in the cosmetic industry is deceptive marketing and ingredient lists I see out there that make people believe there are all these these  expensive ingredients in the product and this especially happens with scents. I saw a shave soap about a year ago that retailed for $23 and in the ingredient list was Rose Absolute, Jasmine Absolute, Tonka Bean and Neroli as the scent profile and I can tell you that would be financially impossible at $23 especially knowing the amount/percentage that’s needed to scent a shave soap.  That soap if it had those real authentic aroma ingredients in it would drive the price up into the $100 plus range. I mean current market price on Rose Otto Absolute is around $800 to $1,000 and oz so if you do the math like I mentioned it would be financially impossible to use it in a $20 soap. So we know it’s a Rose synthetic fragrance oil but it’s not presented that way which to me is just plain old deceptive marking. It’s been happening in the hair and skin care industry for years!

Oh and on the subject of bacon..  love it and I’m not lying when I say I may have to use some good quality fried bacon oil in a shave soap, mix it with some complimentary essential oils and get a unique aroma blend one day. An I ain’t kidding it’s crossed my mind several times for a winter soap and I say why not.  Who doesn’t love bacon!  Big Grin

UPDATE:

Just a couple of quick updates on some things happening at the warehouse today.

Below is the beginning of my Fresh Lime and Basil Infusion for the Fresco Aroma Blend. Still a bunch of steps to do but I’m looking to make the Shave soap this week.

Also the Greenfresh Shampoo/Body Wash and the Bar Soaps are made. Just waiting on the labels. The warehouse fans are on and the whole place smells like Lime & Basil. Very refreshing.

Making the Colonia and Succes Bar  soap and Shampoo/Body Wash this week as all 3 labels are ordered.

Great Shaves!

More excellent choices Frank. Ya can’t wait. But of course you can’t use Dragon’s fat in your soaps as everyone knows they are endangered and their magic will make your face scaly and impervious to fire giving you a +1 AC.

AJSharp , you got me thinking...

Hey Frank, what about some humorous art for the Lime. Something like a gelatinous cube? Nothing says lime like J-E-L-L-O (that'll eat you).
