Nice shave this morning, much like yesterday. I am resolved that the short loft brush is  probably a soft as it will ever be. Face lathered with it for the first time. Knot is too small to hold enough lather for 3 passes. It will likely be reserved for bowl lathers in the future.

For DecemBoar 19th I went back to the Semogue 830. Last time I used it, my first time, it lost a handful of hairs (6?). While not abnormal, this was a well broken and brush to begin with. I didn't feel that that should happen. Thus, I wanted to see if it was going to continue. Also, it was an excuse to use a Semogue again.

Luckily for me only one hair came out through the whole shave. Three passes of a fairly good lather, with the last pass being a bit thin. I suspect that's the limit of these 22mm brushes - 3 by the skin of it's teeth.

I decided to transplant the Nacet blade (#3) to the Winning razor . One of my last shaves with the Winning was less than spectacular, but I wasn't ready to give up on it. Three careful passes and I was very happy. This one was as good, If not better then my first shave with it.

As per the soap, I chose Mick's Grooming Connor (cedar and tobacco). Unfortunately, I am sick and have lost pretty much all sense of smell. So, the scent was lost on me. Nonetheless, this soap performs in spades.

Semogue 1305



Some new stuff today. First, this Semogue 1305 came the other day in a Maggard Razor shipment. One 24+ hr. soak and it acts like well-behaved boar! The only other boar I have had this experience with was the SOC in the Cherry handle. 

The soap is one that a friend in another 'hood got a while back and it just impressed him more and more to the point that last month he said he could happily only have this soap in his den! I took that as a challenge and ordered one myself, lol. Well, shipping from Alberta was high. I mean, it almost was the same as the soap! But I had already hit confirm and hoped that the soap would at least be great if not The Most Awesome Thing Ever.

It arrived yesterday, and I think I posted in the Acquisitions thread the contents of the package. It is Nil, from Bartigan & Stark. The package was big and heavy, and I imagined a BIG tub of soap. Nope. The soap is 5 oz, but Glenn loaded up some "goodies" as he called it! Some Canadian candy (I assume), some drink coasters (what is it with artisans and drinking?! Coasters, Koozies, bottle openers, ets   . And a tub of Nil after shave balm, which retails at a price that very nicely offset the shipping, essentially making shipping free. Glenn enclosed a handwritten note with the package, and this, more than the freebies, made my day. There is another artisan that includes notes, many of which make me smile if not laugh out loud! (rhymes with potter!)

On to the shave. The soap produced an amazingly creamy and copious lather. And my face felt great! I had a couple of irritate spots, most likely from my wielding the Sabre to heavy handed after weeks of lighter vintage razors. So I tried a little of the Nil balm. BAM. Now I feel refresheder! Time will tell, but this soap may unseat my top 3 and move to #1 itself!

I then gave it one test lather and I'm happy to report that this was a very good knot with one single hair lost and feels perfect to me. I would definitely consider the Maggard's premium Boar Knot as a great buy for the money!

Excellent shave this morning. As the Feather worked so well in the Gillette Tech yesterday, I took it to the Bird this morning. Despite my extra care, three weepers showed up during post-shave on the chin. Still an excellent shave this morning.

I gave the knot time to get set up before this morning letting it have a little soak. I then gave it one test lather and I'm happy to report that this was a very good knot with one single hair lost and feels perfect to me. I would definitely consider the Maggard's premium Boar Knot as a great buy for the money!

Great news and review of the Maggards premium boar! Did you use it for the morning shave? Or was this a test lather? And I agree after hand lathering the big knot I got from Maggard's: after a soak and lather, it feels ready to roll! My problem is the soap I am using is in a little tub, and loading a big brush be like


What size knot is that in the Fluffy Industries Dave edition? I think I need a 24mm for my Fluffy Industries MaineYooper edition handle and have a luxury bulb enroute from AP Shave Co.

Just a test lather in palm and cleaned up ending with a towel strop. Will use tomorrow. I was using a scuttle this morning and I did not want to chance cracking it with that copper handle. And yes 24 mm knot.

Semogue 830 was the brush today. It is the perfect size for loading from these smaller tubs like Nil is in. And as I raved yesterday, Nil loads fast and plenty. I easily had enough for 3 passes with just over a 30 second load time. 

After gettin' some schoolin' on the Nano, I put a Kai Captain Titan Mild in that large head and had a very close WTG pass. I still feel like it's too large, but it was easier this morning. I feel I am warming up to the razor now and thank Ken for lending it to me. The Sabre did the rest.
