we recently got back from vacation where my wife took her lady gillette DE with her. on our way through security at the Las Vegas airport, they bag checked her bookbag where the DE razor was. I guess when they inspected it and saw there wasn't a blade in the razor, they let it go.

If you are going carry-on only you might have to mail yourself a pack of blades.  What's strange is you can bring a small pocket knife on a plane but not a DE blade, must have something to do with P&G lobby groups! lol

Yep, unless you are checking baggage you need mail yourself a five pack to the hotel you are staying at. A ship shouldn't have a problem with them in your baggage though. Just the TSA goons at the airport. Here's what I usually take on the road/air though since I wouldn't be bummed if I lost them.

If I need to fly I'll just pack my Feather MR3 Neo cartridge razor and my Wilkinson Blue Shave Stick. For an aftershave I'll take my Nivea Sensitive Aftershave balm. My Semogue 1520 will be packed in a prescription pill bottle with vent holes in the lid. It'll all be carry on.

Here is where having razors you like really comes in handy. When I travel I take one my Parkers with me. Good, smooth performer and only $26-30 lost if baggage handlers get curious. Second would be a Gillette Superspeed, maybe my Red Tip.

For me, it is which brush to take that is the question.

I've never had an issue if there was no blade in the razor. that being said, I've started traveling with injectors. Since the blade is not removable without another blade, I haven't been questioned yet. That being said, I've only done this a couple of times so far, but injectors are cheap.

If you're flying and taking only carry-on luggage, forget it. They will confiscate the blades. Take a disposable. If you're checking luggage, fine. But I would bring a razor I wouldn't be troubled by if lost or stolen. This is a good time for that Parker or the plastic Merkur, a Maggard, something you can replace for under $30. Same for brushes.

Just put your razor and blades in the suitcase, and pray that your baggage handlers are growing beards!

I know the gillette guard is a popular razor for traveling. I've been using one for the past few weeks to keep the area below my beard trimmed up and I haven't had any complaints with it thus far.
