This is available to preorder now for April 5th. mrdoug (Thanks Paul) let me know Pasteur's was giving free samples in advance for the asking. It is an exclusive for them and a homage to Miles Davis and NYC Jazz.

Notes: tobacco leaf, tobacco flower, lemon, pink pepper, neroli, rum, tonic bean, dried fruit, cedar, vanilla bean

The scent is not a normal dupe, instead using a couple of different dupe oils and my own touch, making this an entirely unique scent. Birth of the Cool is one-third Maison Margiela Jazz Club, one-third Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, and one-third my own special tobacco scent blend."

The way the sample came was less than convenient but free is free and who can complain. I had trouble getting it open enough to get some out and ended up scooping all I could with a finger inserted into the tight envelope and smearing what I could get off my fingers and hand into my Turkish copper bowl. It's a soft soap for sure but produced a tremendous lather which had me thinking I do need to get some Macduff's into the den and the scent was a nice one to me and a good strength to enjoy throughout the shave. I was actually thinking I should just order it and then thought I should find another scent I like to get 2 and make shipping count. That's when my recent restraint thinking kicked in and I thought, I do want this one but don't need it now and will get it down the road and a 2nd with it if i find another scent I like when not in a rush. I loved the lather consistency which was easy to get and it rinsed clean from tools as well as cleanly off my face which some with tons of oile do not and bugs me. Macduff's will certainly be added to my den down the road. Everyone have a great day !

Macduffs is an awesome quality soap, no doubt. Their birch+root is heavily in my rotation. Top tier stuff.

I, too, received mine. I can smell it through the package and it's not a scent for me. I decided not to even open it. I'll pass it on to someone else who is interested in trying it out, but didn't get in on the freebie.

I agree, this is absolutely not the best method for packaging soap, but like you said, it is a small sample that they're giving away for free. It allowed them to mail it for a single stamp. I'm guessing you can get 2 shaves out of a packet? So it won't haunt you too long, lol.

Have a good day!

Dave, you're overthinking the restraint  Big Grin  Tell me, how "nice" is the scent on Birth of the Cool?  If I were to buy it it would have to be from Pasteur and then theres FX and shipping and it would end up being a very expensive tub of soap.  I'm thinking I'll restrain myself...  I have several MacDuff soaps and the V4 soap base is top tier.  Birch and Root is excellent and I really like both Autumn Cabin and Christmas Cabin.  I had a sample of Winter Cabin and decided to restrain - it was very nice but I already had Christmas and the winter season was getting full.  Bad Santa is excellent and it will be a year rounder for me.  If you order some Macduff straight from the source and ask nicely, Sean will probably throw in a couple of samples.

I liked it enough that I want it, but can't deny some of that desire is the cool label art and Miles Davis/NYC Jazz connection as well as Pasteur's exclusive. I'll be supportive of you even though you are being "Bad Mark" to me right now and I'll say, you'll live if you don't pay extra to get it......... MAYBE Big Grin

Any chance the folks at Macduffs have a few tubs of this exclusive for their Canadian brothers? They were 50+% of the equation. Perhaps it's worth a PM / email?

It might be 'Monday morning quarterbacking ', but that's a good idea on general for future releases like this. Leave a handful of soaps at the Canadian vendor to get it out to an additional market? Even if it's only 5 or so tubs, I'm sure those few folks who go looking for it would appreciate the forethought.
