I hear you Dave. I’m just curious to hear if anyone thinks it’s actually “better” than the CB who’s had experience with both. To be fair i think It’s likely just marketing. The CB has pretty much saturated the market so a new model is required to keep sales going. There’s nothing wrong with that and as you say, ymmv so if you love the Overlander then that’s great.

Mark, it's just my opinion but that would be difficult to do as I think the head geometry and how the blade is shaped/domed is different and is a totally different shave. I don't know who came up with the shaves like a B, efficiency like a D plate but I don't see that myself. I really don't think I'd compare it to any of the Christopher Bradley plates because it's comparing apples to oranges razor to razor at least in my book. You know how this hobby is with the YMMV. The Overlander is already in the wind and on its way back to Eric. Have a great day!
I think the "shaves like" part is the trip up... It's never going to "shave like". If you want a razor that shaves like a CB, you need to check out the ... CB. Lol.

I get that but still, its not like there are an infinite number of razor geometries and shave feels out there. A human's ability to perceive differences is limited as well.  I'll occasionally. load up two razors and either alternate passes or use one on the left side and the other on the right.  Sometimes just for fun and other times because I'm concerned that one of the setups might be a little rough or whatever and I don't want to be able to quickly bail on it and revert to the known.  Its never a perfect comparison because I don't load identical fresh blades but go with what's in the rotation plus a fresh whatever.  Theres also the case where one of the razors may be an "autopilot" and the other a "pay very close attention" razor.  What I'll take away from these exercises is just subjective feelings like one is smoother than the other or it shaved closer  or caused less bleeding. I'm not taking out the callipers or calculating drag coefficients or anything.  An example of a comparison I've done would be that I think the Rockwell 6s plate #6 with a Feather blade shaves very similarly to the Wolfman WR1 with a Feather blade (don't ask me the blade gap because I dont know it I got the razor several years ago before I was even aware there were options so its whatever JD defaulted to at the time).  Bottom line is you have to pay very close attention to what youre doing with both of those setups.  Also probably don't want to use that setup for two or more consecutive shaves.  At the end of the day, all just my opinion - ymmv

Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1189

Since Marko is talking different blade geometry's I bring you the Firm Blade with half a Shark SS Blade. It looks intimidating and the curved blade had me wondering as I'm sure others would. Is this for ladies armpits or guys shaving. Well if you check the Waits Compendium it will tell you it's a just a razor design basically. Waits is wrong sometimes so checking the Patent US2421205 of 1947 you find that it doesn't distinguish what gender it was made for but does layout the reasoning for the design and their goals. Feel free to read if you want but it wasn't designed specifically for women.

So snapping a DE blade in half and some snipping with some scissors gets a blade sat where it was designed to be.

How's the shave ? VERY.................mild and barely cutting whiskers even with added pressure, but it did clip some as seen in the photo. It was leaving tone of lather behind on a stroke which is a clear indication of none successful shaving strokes.

This necessitated calling in the Kenyon for pass 2 and 3 to get a quality shave. Some more research and playing with a way to get the blade secured more forward for some cutting will be played with. I'm off for some coffee and homemade Apricot Cinnamon Pecan Biscotti....... Have a stellar day folks !!

In the end, looks like a great shave with the medieval torture (tickle?!) device and the can opener (as Fluffy called it!). Apricot cinnamon pecan biscotti and coffee, that is a stellar start to your day. Have a great day, Dave!

That’s pretty cool. I admire and respect your commitment to the vintage razors and the work involved not just acquiring the items but thoroughly researching them as well. It’s interesting how the design obviously evolved from the illustrations from the patent with two supports to the single support version you have. I wonder if it was ever a produced as illustrated or whether it was modified from the start for aesthetics, weight or cost reasons or all of the above. It’s definitely an interesting design and I’m guessing someone on the design team pointed out that the human body/face is not a rigid flat surface and that with pressure it “deforms “ to match the razor. I think the same argument can be made in support of the traditional flat razor head though, and seriously, how much pressure are you really going to apply. Your experience indicates that the design wasn’t a hit. I would suspect you get less contact between blade and face than the entire length of the blade. Like the blade if a hockey skate vs a speed skate. Hockey skate has a greater rocker curve from front to back creating a shorter length if actual contact with the ice resulting in increased maneuverability while speed skate is virtually flat giving maximum blade to ice contact resulting in maximum straight line speed with very little maneuverability. Now obviously the human face and a skating rink don’t have a lot in common but it does provide a graphic blade to surface interface geometry illustration.  Thanks Dave.

Btw, I had extra coffee this morning!!

Kudos Dave!  Your scholarship is tirelessly diligent and very interestingly presented.  (To be fair, your choice of pastries should at least get honorable mention.)

Let's keep focus here! The pastries should be center stage, the razors get honorable mention.

That does sound tasty Dave! Have an awesome Tuesday.
