I see he has a new Select v.2 line as well, but since he removed coconut oil and sweet almond oil I will probably stick to the regular Select line for any future purchases. I suppose if he ever discontinues the original then I may try the v.2.

Yeah honestly the Oliva didn't do much for me (see my post above), and the Select v2, while nice, seems more finicky to lather (narrower sweet spot, I'd say) without being that noticeably slicker than the regular Select. That said, those regular Select soaps really are fantastic, so this is quibbling a bit.

It's nice to hear your experience. I believe removing coconut and sweet almond oils with no substitution and increasing the butters would indeed change the lather characteristics. I understand removing almond for those who are allergic but since I don't have a problem with it I will continue using Select. I agree though, CRSW Select is an excellent soap and has a spot in my rotation.

Thank you for your answer. It actually made me think I will stop thinking a while about it :-) I have plenty of vegetable soaps like Catie's or MDC or Mé. I have one Select v1 soap and it is great.

Thanks again for the advice

I picked up a CRSW v2 Bergamot and Bay soap and used it for the first time and I was very impressed.  Its in the top 5 soaps that I've tried IMO.  I wanted the vetiver soap but they all gone Sad  I think these soaps are great performers, I'd drop the Bergamot and Bay soap a point because of the mild scent.  Its a pleasant smelling soap it just doesn't have much smell. Its like OSP, great performer, mild smeller.   Its in the rotation nevertheless - I can always load up on a uber-fragrant aftershave if I'm so inclinedSmile.

Interesting that you find it mild; my Bergamot & Bay is pretty strongly scented. It's far from annoyingly so, but it does linger faintly for a few hours after the shave. I have the original Select version of it, though; not sure that that would make a difference.

I love the original Select line; to me they're on-par with Barrister & Man for a luxurious, slick, rich artisan tallow soap. The v2 Select, though, has proven to be more finicky to lather optimally, and I'm not getting notably better performance from it compared to the original Select. I can see why Larry isn't just replacing Select with the v2 (at least hopefully he isn't!). That said, I'm glad he's offering the v2 for those with sensitivities to almond oil, etc.

Thanks to all you gents sharing your reviews. I guess I'm sticking to the Select line, which IMO is excellent.

Never been a fan of olive oil, but almost dropped the coin for it. Thanks to the reviews, I'm taking a pass at this time.

onethinline i think I'll give the original line a shot because I do think the scent is part of the experience. Maybe I'll ask my doctor to check my nose at my next checkup, although I'm not sure I'd appreciate the test Dodgy I don't think there's anything wrong with my sense of smell but I am finding some soaps to be mild that others seem to consider fragrant, OSP and now this one.
