Do you guys think the razor manufacturers are very careful with the base plates when they polish their razors? Makes me wonder especially the very high polished ones.
Just a thought on it and not wanting to hi jack this thread.

Not all of the time. A few years back, I ordered three razors from an artisan in order to ship them internationally to my friends.
The artisan polished all of his razors; you can easily see the differences btw the baseplates:

That is obvious too, not a good deal.

Now that adds another facet to this discussion on polishing! I assume (I know, I know! Don't assume!) that all 3 were the same, initially? This is quite dramatic!

CNC machining is quite precise; I believe that all three were identical prior to polishing.

I am looking to get some general info on these brushes. Age, year, that kind of stuff. They were my dads and I'm assuming they fall into the "older" category! All are branded but one.
This one has no branding.
These have some branding and markings.

This one I found after the others in the mirror cabinet. It doesn't appear to have even been used.

Your best bet is over in the brush section where there is already a discussion and some resources given.

Who knew polishing could be so controversial?  I get that in the hands of an unskilled individual polishing can alter the crisp edges of a CNC milled razor and change the feel but I suppose that that can happen even in the hands of a skilled individual or original maker as evidenced by the comparison pictures above and then there’s the issue of whether or not the original artisan does the polishing themselves or has polishers in their employ who may not be as skilled as the artisan themselves. I have a Wolfman WR1 in mirror polish that I bought eight or nine years ago that I assume was polished by James because he was a one man show at the time. Is it worth more than a more recent model that may have had helper’s hands on it??  Murky waters.

Here’s another question-why polish those surfaces that are not seen on the assembled razor? Isn’t that like painting/finishing the underbody of a car to the same level as the visible surfaces?

The glaring difference between Ebay and DFS BST is, although discouraged, at DFS the Merchants of Chaos can, and do, talk members into sending Payment via Friends and Family. From there you have zero recourse and DFS seems to lay the blame entirely at the feet of the buyer. Not my sandbox, not my rules. Good thing too.

So how is it DFS’ fault that a bst buyer gets burned and has no recourse because he went friends and family despite multiple warnings by DFS not to do that? We take no pleasure in seeing people get burned but seriously??  On the other point as to why the seller skates?  I don’t think they should

Happy Father's Day.

I didn't say it was DFS' fault. If I did, point it out. What i said was DFS "seems" to lay blame solely at the feet of the buyer. I was specifically referencing your post in the closed thread. As I recall, it was only 4 sentences or so. The first generic, the last 3 pointing out buyer beware, etc. Etc. I don't think you even mentioned the deplorable behavior of the seller....and by letting the seller remain a member in good standing, the admin team gives tacit approval. Just my opinion. Maybe I read too much into your post.

I have no skin in the game but it sounds like you and I are on the same page tho on the seller skating.

Well it is a he said, she said type of thing for mods to make a decision on. They can't prove one way or the other when the payment and shipping info is outside the forum. Best you can do in this case is have a seller and buyer complaint profile attachment that everyone can see. You make a complaint it is put on your profile and details of it. Same with the seller. Let users see that and make their own decision if they want to do business with the user account.

Seller with deplorable behaviour lol oh my gosh wow that’s some strong words used here I like it!!

Besides all this nonsense is there a past “history” of Buyer doing same things for ex…a brush incident???

Hmmmmmmmm that haven’t escaped my mind!!

Before tossing the seller sometime need to “reserve judgment” to  have a magnifying loop on buyer  Wink
