Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 975

1st shave/thoughts with the winning razor. The shape of the head and how it clamps the blade and shaves ALL remind me of a Stainless Steel Henson. I'm on the fence as it gives an amazing shave but tends to stick/grab at times instead of gliding which messes with the flow of the shave. A comfortable and close shave for SURE but the experience left me wondering if I want to keep it in the den. No rash decision will be made but those are the initial thoughts. Have a stellar day Guys !

Thanks for your thoughts Dave. Man, I love the idea of a stainless Henson-like razor, but the sticking / not sliding thing has me on the fence.

I have found that I need to use a thinner well hydrated lather and I have no issue with sticking, I still the suction I described, but not drag. I had the same issue with the Henson and to some degree the Blackbird.

You can call it suction, I call it drag, bottom line is having a smooth glide, and the razors you mentioned do not glide smoothly for me and that is why I sold them.

I have to say the the winning razor keeps impressing me. I still can't believe Jake can make a razor, have a 3rd party sell it for $50, and still have a profit margin for both parties.

I don't notice any drag at all. I do use a thin/wet lather as Mark suggested.

I criticized the aesthetics of the lather holes, but in person they actually look pretty nice in person. Doesn't remind me of a spiral bound notebook anymore.

Now that I have been using the Winning razor off and on for the last 3 weeks ( been playing with the Sailor and Taiga) I am still very pleased with it, here are my thoughts.
1. Fit is perfect, but do not expect more than a nice machined finish
2. Great razor for everyday or every other day shavers, consistently giving me a 3 pass BBS
3. Very smooth ATG
4. Still get a slight suction feel on the first pass, it does not inhibit a free flowing shave.
5. Well balanced razor, and not too heavy for me.
6. Every blade I have used has worked well.
7. No blade chatter
8. Great Bang for your buck razor.
9. Probably not a razor for guys who like high blade feel, or shave every 3-4 days.
These are just my thoughts as a daily shaver, I am impressed with how good this razor is for being all SS and made by a small manufacturer (Yates Precision) in the USA, for the price.

Thanks to Shavemd for posting the special deal.

Have shaved 4 times with this razor. Very happy with it so far. Pretty much same experience as those above. It is heavy which doesn’t bother me. May try with a lighter handle next time. I get that suction mostly on my N->S pass. It does seem to remove residual slickness though on that pass so need to re-lather vs taking some extra strokes. Will mess around with that though and see. Very happy with the purchase. Crazy to get it at the special price of $40.

I think Henson and the Winning razor would both benefit from some type of striations on the part of the head that should be in contact with the skin.

My razor landed yesterday and I just had a first shave with it today. Will post some additional impressions after a couple more shaves but I did get the "suction" feel at times and its interesting for sure!
