Like many of you, I received the email about Charcoal Goods new design and cessation of a wait list.

Am I the only person who is disappointed that the design has changed? The pix of the new config have taken away my desire to own one.

What do you think?

I actually prefer the looks of his old design as well based on the pictures I’ve seen. From what I’ve read the new head design is supposed to shave the same as the old design, so it would simply be for looks. I was also a little disappointed to read that the new stainless heads would only be available as a package with his Torpedo Handles. That Handle is one of my least favorite out of all of Brian’s designs, so I’ll be passing for that reason as well.

That being said, Brian is one of my very favorite Razor makers, and I absolutely Love the shaves I get with my lvl 2 CG Razors. I’m still on his backup list, and I hope to be able to order his old design when my turn comes up. The pics of his new design have much less personality compared to his old design in my opinion. I was also sad to hear that he doesn’t plan on making any open combs any time in the near future due to Safety Bar accounting for 85% of his sales. I love my CG Open Comb, and hope he’ll make it available again in the future, it’s a great shaver. Hopefully he’ll also offer his new design in the future with the option of some different Handles, instead of as a package.

I’m sure he’ll have no problem selling his new design, especially if it Shaves as well as his old design.

New razors, bye bye waiting list, and the future...

Spring Shop Updates

The first batch of the new generation 2 baseplates and generation 4 top caps should hit the website by mid-March. The first production run will be the Level-2 closed comb head sold as a complete razor with the 4"/100mm Torpedo handle design.

This new design is a visual departure from the Gillette NEW inspired Generation 1 head but don't worry, it shaves exactly the same. You can read more about the new design here.
Where is the Waiting List?
The waiting list process worked great, up until the point it stopped working entirely. As many of you noticed you stopped being able to check your position online. My customer support inquires to the software company that hosts the service have gone unanswered. When I most recently logged in I was no longer able to access the list myself. I have reluctantly closed my account with the company and apologize that the process has not worked smoothly.
What's Next?
I still have a backup copy of the waiting list and while it is incomplete, I will be doing my best to slowly go through it.

For 2019 all new products and designs will be listed on the website as they are machined and not subject to any purchasing restrictions (as the software doesn't work anymore).

Most handle designs are currently in stock and the new stainless steel razor will be available to all once completed.
What's After That?
I'm still a one-man operation and will remain so until we move again in 17 months. My 2019 goal is to manufacture higher quantities of the most popular designs and also release a few special edition razors, ie. The Stinger.

Many current razor baseplate options will be discontinued as they sell out in an effort to increase production on the most popular designs. 85% of all customers choose closed comb baseplates. I'll bring the others back later once I can hire employees and grow the machine shop.

The website now receives over 4,000 online sessions per month. This generates a lot of office work and a ton of email. While I do my best, I'm increasingly unable to respond to everyone. Please take a look at the Shop Talk page on the website. I try and update that page every 2 weeks and it should answer many questions.

"Many current razor baseplate options will be discontinued as they sell out ..."

So if, like me, you own a Level 2 in bright brass and want a level 3 baseplate only,
does this mean it's not going to happen?

My understanding is he will be eliminating OC baseplates as they account for 15% of sales. I don't know if that's ALL OC's or just certain materials.

I was interested in the SB Lvl 3 brass plate but looks like it's not going to happen.
Either for a very long time or not at all.

My takeaway from his email:

bye bye waiting list
I still have a backup copy of the waiting list and while it is incomplete, I will be doing my best to slowly go through it.

Looks like if you're not on this list which closed a while back, you are SOL.

The first production run will be the Level-2 closed comb head sold as a complete razor with the 4"/100mm Torpedo handle design.

Complete razor means no customisation or very little of it. Less choice.

So nothing polished? Thats not so bad I guess. That gothic typeface behind the SS baseplates
and the treatment look so cluttered...I would have thought just the logo that looks like a '2' and
'Lvl x' would be distinct enough. Whats the point of a serial no...mine says #1118 or something.

My 2019 goal is to manufacture higher quantities of the most popular designs

I guess the most popular design has got to be Level 2 solid bar. So looks like a a level 3 plate is still a long way off.
Wonder if a SS Lvl 3 plate is compatible with existing brass top caps.

Many current razor baseplate options will be discontinued as they sell out

Guess all the current brass parts out there are on their way to becoming collectors' items.
Im going to hang on to my Lvl 2 in bright brass....its such a joy to use. The sound it makes
gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
