This new base and cap by charcoal is an improvement over an already elite design. It’s a smoother performance and the blade feels more rigid to me. Mowed down trouble spots with ease. Just fantastic. .

Just ordered a top cap and baseplate today. Not a fan of the Torpedo so I’ll use another handle Looking forward to giving the new gen a try

Got my new level 2 baseplate and gave it a run tonight. I found it very smooth and efficient. I did not find it significantly different than my original level 2 in Copper but I will need to do a side by side to be sure. It appears to hold the blade more rigid for people who find that important, I never had any issues with the original. I think Brian has made improvements on his original design without sacrificing the feel of the original. 2 things I noted
1 The scalloped markings on the SB are now gone.
2. The middle section of the baseplate from the bottom is raised , hopefully this can be seen in the pics, so some of my handles do not tighten up against the baseplate. All of my Charcoal Goods handles worked great but some of my handles that have a flare at the top did not. I am not a FrankenRazor guy but if you like to change out handles I tried to get a pic with a measuring tape to give you an idea of the space.
I am very happy with Brian’s improvements but I won’t be trading out my original Baseplates

Not that I have a Charcoal Razor (yet), the more rigid control of the blade edge is good news for people like me. I find I really feel any chatter at the Blade edge and it makes shaves less enjoyable for sure.

To my eye the gen 2 plate is orders of magnitude better looking than the gen 1. In particular I like the pocket and stud system that couples the cap to the plate. I’m a hobby machinist so these are the things I notice and appreciate.

Has anyone been checking out Charcoals Instagram lately. He's been coming up with some awesome handle designs. I'm hoping some make it to production.

decided to try out the copper with the new style base plate. first CG razor and I was too impatient to wait for my normal metal choice (SS).

out of curiosity, what is longevity like on CG copper razors? "copper" says soft to me but it's all in the alloying, I suppose.

He says he uses C110 Copper, which is pretty much pure. It is an absolute nightmare to machine, but assuming he’s getting the 1/2 hard it will be surprisingly dense and rigid. Should hold up for several lifetimes if not dropped or abused.
