Just Here for the Shaves

I'll step in just to say that we encourage cool heads to prevail and privately sort out the details. I doubt any of the parties (all of which are respected members of the forum) are trying to do anything purposely wrong. Take it to private discussion to get to the bottom of the matter when comparing the facts known by each other and then you can post for reference here. We ask all to keep the discussion here cordial and according to forum rules and guidelines to keep the thread open.

Also it seems a good time to remind all to do your due diligence when making transactions in BST

1- B/S/T transactions are between the buyer & seller. Damn Fine Shave is NOT responsible for the outcome of any transactions. Please do your due diligence before buying or selling items.

Copy that.  I only ask as both original run and second run have Version 1 Bishop handles.  The maze in SS had not been born yet

Original Run 316L, ten hand polished by Brian.  It has a very distinguished underside of top cap and no engraving on base plate, just a tattoo. All 10 have a V1 Bishop.  The value of this razor now stands at the same value of a SS BBS1. One sold for 1350 the moment Brian announced his retirement. No one would alter the original spec of this amazing razor. Unlike the SS BBS1 and Ti BBS1….. only 10 of these fine razors exist.  5 of them are identified and noted here in SOTD archives.  All 10 are Level 1 only, HOWEVER it does not shave like a Level 1.  It’s a much different shave.  I have brass and copper in DC, SB and OC  Gen 1 and Gen 2, level 1 and Level 2.  The original 316L 10 razors are special.  They are uniquely very high in efficiency and the smoothness can’t be mistaken for anything else CG. It’s a special Razor, and now even more special as Brian sips a Manhattan in retirement at a beach somewhere in the Maldives

2nd Run 304L, Gorgeous satin matte finish, very different from what was created after.  It also has a matte 304L Version 1 Bishop.  The unique thing about the second run is the fact they were engraved with the Level 1 identifier AND a tattoo.  Equally gorgeous and equally very hard to find whole.  I’ve been chasing one since 2018.  Sadly many of them were sold off as a broken apart kit

How many 304L in this spec were made by Brian? There is a number, more than 50, less than 500

I hope this helps.  All my intel comes from Brian himself and with his permission, I would be willing to publish our personal emails.

Information like this is very important for the archives here at DFS and vital to preserve the integrity of these fine instruments……especially when the Artisans are no longer with us

Cheers

Yes this is 10 of 316 SS Rob yes bishop handle was orginal on it!!

So before stiring thing up here on DFS accusing me that I sold “fraudulent” CG Razor to John you should have facts first hand!!

Second handle wasn’t bought from WhiskerWhacker your Buddy!!

Headset was alone $500 USD and yes it was polished by Brian sent to Swizerland to match the font Lvl1 by professional Watchmaker that cost me $300 CHF..

So I would ask you to reserve your judgment and be polite about it before throwing things out there on me for no reason!!

Are you saying this CG1 Gen1 Lvl2 is fake too lol maybe you know it all and I also have personal emails by Brian I’m willing to share here as well!!

Not sure what is this about but glad to see true Color’s and faces for future references!
Hi Alan, I haven’t accused you of selling a fraudulent razor to anyone and my facts are crystal clear regarding the authenticity of the first ten 316L SS razors made and hand polished by Brian himself. A photo of that razor is not represented here…. the handle of the first ten or the second run in matte isn’t even represented here.  Kindly go to the Charcoal Goods thread in DE Razors and you can see what the first 10 look like.

No one cares about 300 Swiss Franc this or 500 USD that, stick to the facts here Sir.  You also need to stop pulling random members into this mess, your mess, again, stick to the facts Sir. Why have you posted another razor on this thread that has nothing to do with the authentication of the razor you sold John? Are you asking for my opinion whether it’s authentic? Send me a Personal Message and I would be happy to do that for you.

I’ve always liked you Alan, I think you’re a good guy with good intentions and it’s quite possible you made a mistake authenticating what the original ten 316L razor is based upon the information you were given? Mistakes are made all the time, I probably make ten mistakes on a daily basis, however, authenticating an original Charcoal Goods Stainless Steel Razor in 316L that was hand polished by Brian Twilley himself isn’t a mistake I can ever make.

Lastly, the next time you mention my name publicly on any thread at any site before taking it up with me privately you will see my true colour…. and NOW you’ve been warned.

Secondly another fact razor is original Gen1 Lvl1 made out of 10 316 SS..

Your are the one Sir Pulling members here in the mess here message other privately to accuse me of it!! No need of it!! If you have something up your sleeve say it don’t go around!

I always had original razors never had anything that’s fake or “fraudulent”!!

I’m sorry I started this mess?? Ask your self who did..

Lastly don’t warn me here as I have done nothing wrong!!

I won’t be accused of no one as I never been till now!  I always been truthfull with loyalty to everyone botton line.

Living on the edge
I should probably mind my own business... but when have I ever listened to the inner voice?

I'm not a collector by any stretch but even I can tell you that if an item has been altered by a third party (eg. engraver),
then its historical value is greatly diminished...I would say completely negated. So that takes care of collector
credentials.

Next up: shaving credentials. I'm seeing a razor that definitely appears to be an authentic Charcoal Goods implement.
And it looks sharp.

Personally, this isn't some piece of history now that its been engraved–I would focus on whether it shaves good and
looks nice and isn't fake. If its affirmative on all three then I would enjoy.

Posting Freak
I’d like to remind everyone of the rules of DFS. There’s the BST rules which are clear that transactions are between buyer and seller ONLY and there’s the requirement to maintain a civil discourse. I ask that the buyer and seller in this case kindly take the matter to PM or other private communication as this is starting to take on the appearance of a schoolyard fight. If that doesn’t happen then the Moderators will close this thread or delete it as we consider appropriate.

This may be the razor as it was before Swiss touched it. I honestly have no idea what edition you purchased, but I believe it to be quite rare.

The before photo of the head in that thread looks to me like the satin/matte version. Equally cool, but made of 304 instead of 316 if I'm not mistaken.

I have exchanged MANY PM messages with the seller and have gotten nowhere in my requests for images of receipts to authenticate his claims. All I have left to say is that I asked to return the razor for a refund, noting that a gentleman would agree to that, and he refused.

Just for everyone's interest, here is a post by Alan from 12/2021 in which he appears to be showing the results of his polishing of the MATTE original Gen-1 Lvl-1 head - in other words the 304 steel, NOT the rare 306 one.
