Sorry to hear that. Which plate are you referring to #3 as? And what blade did you use?
Presumably the ++ plate?

I have both the original and + plates and like them both. To me the original is like a more efficient Feather AS-D2. I found the Feather AS-D2 to be too mild, leading to me pressing and going over the same areas, leading to "burns" and nicks. I do not have that problem with the Carbon CX standard plate.

The + plate is even better for me. Less blade feel, coupled with the enhanced blade gap, gives me just the right angle for smooth, nick-free ATG shaves.

I suspect the + plate is my Goldilocks plate, but I really want to try the ++ plate. The neutral blade exposure and conflicting comments from people about the ++ plate's smoothness have me wondering where it would rank for me relative to the other two. Some people say it is aggressive and others say it's not at all.

By contrast, I have used the Karve B, C and D plates, and there is clear progression of aggressiveness. (The C, by the way, gives me a wonderful and mindless shave.)

I’m curious how the original and the ++ plates fair against the WR2 as far as efficiency and comfort. Anyone able to offer comparisons? Thanks for any help in enabling Smile

Short answer is that the WR2 design will have a bit more blade feel than the ++. I have a BBS-1 which I really like but would say so far the last 3 months with the ++ have yielded superior closeness and comfort versus the best shaves I have had with the BBS-1. Many more people that I have seen review the Carbon models like the original 0.68 plate more but the blade gap and less blade exposure on the ++ seems to work well for me.

I have both the WR2 1.25 and the Carbon ++. For me, the Carbon is a joy to use. Very nimble and carefree and for me the more enjoyable razor. The 1.25 is noticeably more efficient however.

Apologize for no updates! Was extremely busy throughout trialing this razor. Also was unable to snap any pictures due to having mostly hurried shaves. Was able to get in 4 shaves with the razor, 3 with the original baseplate and had a shave off with the original vs "++" on my last shave. My thoughts remain very similar to the titanium razor. I much prefer the original baseplate. The SS razor seems a touch more aggressive due to the weight increase, so being careless I did give myself some irritation on one of the shaves. Other than that it was a joy. This razor is able to effortlessly remove 4-5 days of growth, while still being mild enough to use every 1-2 days with little risk of irritation. The added blade exposure on the original baseplate allows the user to really adjust the shave to their liking by changing the shave angle. Both the "+" and "++" baseplates just don't seem to work for me. The R2 handle is beautiful with perfect balance, grip, and weight. The one flaw, not even directly related to the razor, is the packaging. The labels peeling off the cardboard tube seems common. With that said I respect Sean being extremely eco friendly with the packaging. This razor is undamaged after being shipped all over the country, so the packaging is doing it's job perfectly well. After trialing both versions of the razor, I ended up purchasing a titanium model. It was one of the best razors I have used and I'm happy to have one in my den. I look forward to what else Sean comes up with in the future for his company. Thank you CarbonShavingCo. and andrewjs18 for setting up this passaround and allowing it to happen.

Just finished my shave tests last night, and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with this razor! The original and the “+” plate were fine. Both were smooth and left little irritation. But the “++” plate was very nice! Carbon also reached out to me and sent a prototype mild plate. It was very comfortable to shave with and left little irritation. I shaved last night on one side with the mild plate and the other side with the “++” and asked my wife which was smoother she said that the “++” was smoother but it was close. The real difference, though, came today with the mild side already showing signs of new growth and the “++” is still smooth fifteen hours later. Very nicely done Carbon, thanks for the chance to try it out!!

I’ll get these cleaned up and ship them off as soon as I get MaxP’ s info. Just for reference, this is the prototype mild base plate.
