Just a few wrap up thoughts around the set. With respect to the 2020 base plates,I find them that they scale up nicely starting with the -.the - looks as a nice daily driver for those with light thin beard. No blade feel smooth and does the job. The + and ++ I have found them to be very smooth, no blade feel and do a very good job with thicker and more dense beard like mine. I would probably go for the + as a daily driver. Two passes and cleanups do a nice job all over. The ++ would be my go to choice for an every other day shave or more.
What has surprised me a bit is the normal 2020 that comes in the pass around and my 2019 base plate. My 2019 has a fair amount of blade feel. Perhaps a bit more than what I enjoy as a daily driver. However, with the 2020 base plate, there is none of that. The 2020 has no blade feel and fits nicely in the range. However, the 2019 base plate isn’t neither here or there and blade feel is noticeable.
Different geometry with different blade sitting between the 2020 and 2019 base plates?
Different tolerances between batches?
No idea, but surely I would go for the 2020 base plate.
