Quote:I have a question for those in the know. I'd expect there to be some kind of galvanic reaction between the carbon fiber and the Ti. What effect would that have on the durability of the handle?

Cino thanks for asking...never been asked this before but a fair question, here is a good article that discusses this:

https://www.corrosionpedia.com/galvanic-...ers/2/1556

Titanium is extremely resistant to corrosion and Graphite(Carbon) is even more resistant, here is a chart that ranks the material(Chart 1):

https://www.corrosionpedia.com/an-introd...ion/2/1403

The risk is minimal with Titanium/carbon fiber of any galvanic corrosion(both noble materials) and the article above recommends using Titanium and its alloys to reduce galvanic corrosion. We also offer a version of this handle in stainless...the article above discusses the issue of pitting corrosion with lower grades of stainless such as 304. 303 is even more likely to corrode...We however use a highly corrosive resistant "marine grade" 316L stainless steel in all our razors.

Another note to mention is that in our design of the R3 handle, the carbon fiber does not actually touch the titanium(or stainless)...there is about a +.1mm gap that is filled with a specially designed epoxy for bonding composites and metals (made by 3M...a local Minnesota company!) that acts as an insulator and adhesive. The epoxy takes about 2 weeks to cure...

Interesting fact but it was a wet shaver out of the UK who works on F1 race cars who gave us tips and helped us to make this bond...in our first version of this handle we used small "micro-beads" in the epoxy to create this gap.

This is our perspective from a design point of view. Thanks again for asking...

Thanks Sean. I'd say that article combined with your explanation answers my question.

the carbon razors landed yesterday. I'll probably get that out to Dave in KY tomorrow or Tuesday as the H&S razor arrived first and I don't want to hold up this pass around.

thanks again, CarbonShavingCo.

Andrew if you haven't sent to me yet please send to next on the list. I'll respectfully ask to me removed from the pass. Thanks

One note that may be of use to people have tried the Carbon razors on the earlier passaround. In my experience using a few of the different models that are offered with webbed base plate, it made it feel a bit more aggressive to me or made the blade feel a bit more present. So for those of you that like an efficient shaver, you may feel the same or refute my findings. My thought is the the earlier and solid base plates offer a bit more substance around the blade and make it feel a bit heavier, but also more care free to use while shaving. When I use my webbed plates, like the 0.68 and the "+" base plates, the lighter feeling around the blade (or around the top of the razor) makes me use a lighter touch. I also try to maintain the shave angle a bit more attentively.

Anyways, thats just a little something that I'm curious to hear if anyone else has thoughts on during the passaround. Cheers and enjoy the weekend everyone

The Carbon Shaving Co. Cx 316L and Cx Ti Razors Arrived Today!

I feel excited and honored and intimidated to be the first participant in this pass-around. This is my first experience using a Carbon Shaving Co. razor. I love the packaging. The top of the cylinder was still sealed by the label, allowing me to pretend I purchased the razors myself Smile . A healthy assortment of blades is included along with the two beautiful razors.

The razors and plates are packed in a felt tool roll for a unique presentation. Cx 316L is pictured on the left, Cx Ti on the right. I unboxed the razors with my two sons, and they too were impressed with the look and feel. They had never held a titanium razor, and the first reaction was a surprised exclamation of "What the ?"

As this is my first experience with a Carbon razor, I just had to choose the original plate first. I used my go-to Nacet blade and lathered up some B&M Le Grand Chypre with my Trotter Handcrafts Cities From Space brush.

Tonight's shave was face-only on 24 hour growth. The original plate is very comfortable and brings a nice level of efficiency. My measure of razor excellence is how it performs in two passes. This is indeed an excellent razor. After two passes I could have easily been done. I gave a light third pass and suffered absolutely no irritation and achieved an easy BBS shave. This razor does not seem to reward the steep angle I like, but finding the angle is intuitive and the effective range is not too narrow. I am looking forward to moving up a + tomorrow and trying it out on the dome.
