BullGooseShaving and their own Asylum 17-4.....

Every Asylum product in my bathroom is a winner! I love my Asylum Evo, it was the first razor of mine to have a Darwin style handle (Wolfie being my second)! 

I would support an Asylum 17-4 just as I supported a P-dime 17-4 and H&S 17-4. The mock up looks really great, I’d like a 90mm handle but I’d also like world peace, so yeah.....

Really? I’ve always been of the opinion that “things” are best resolved outside of court, if possible. Too often, the attorneys are the ones who end up benefitting most when disputes end up in court. Sure, courts and the justice system service a purpose, but I view them as more of a last resort when it comes to small civil matters.

I agree, it’s very sad. I opened/started the thread as like any other would with an enthusiasm of a particular razor that in the eyes of many has attained near legendary status (the Paradigm 17-4) in performance & craftsmanship. I regretted not pulling the trigger when it was first released a couple of years ago and I’ve kicked myself in the ass ever since. I saw the announcement from Bullgoose with the short info clip behind why he (Phil) was in the process of creating his own 17-4 alloyed razor. In my enthusiasm I also included that clip of negative information and reasons for why it was being created. And honestly, in hindsight, I regret starting the thread as I failed to look at the bigger picture of what could transpire in a public shave forum where everyone has a shot of turning into an armchair lawyer/counselor. This is not a shot or jab for those members that are tied into the legal profession and do have the expertise & knowledge to comment on this particular situation/subject. But, as a whole it’s in our nature to add our $.02 into every action that transpires on these forums, good or bad. I sincerely regret what has transpired between Bullgoose & Paradigm and the airing of “dirty laundry” between these two vendors for which the shaving public is now witness to. On top of that, we have gent’s that are loyal to one brand or the other if not both, and that’s where things can get messy from a forum point of view. We’ll argue and debate until the cows come home over some bit of info that has been disclosed between two parties and yet, we still know not all of the details and parameters of their dealings. And we probably never will. Hopefully, cooler minds will prevail and an amicable agreement can be reached between both parties to resolve their issue(s). Things like this happen everyday and the shave world is not excluded from it unfortunately.

To me, these shave forums give me a little bit of a respite in that I can come to read, participate & maybe debate a little and perhaps do a bit of friendly ribbing with other forum members that enjoy the hobby for what it is. A nice stop for some info, laughs and comradery. Nothing more. I hate picking sides and I never will when it comes to vendors/artisan makers of shaving products. I judge each one based on my own personal experiences of their business character & ethics without the need nor the opinion/influence of others. Though, I still value information, good or bad so that I may make a concerted effort in making sound decisions on with whom I choose to do business with. And we all should use and employ proper due diligence in all business/personal matters.

In the end, I own products from both of these vendors and artisan manufacturers that I have enjoyed equally and I really don’t have much bad to say about them in terms of product & service. Still, I want a 17-4 alloy razor in my collection regardless of who makes it. I just hope that Bullgoose & Paradigm can resolve this issue in a good way and most importantly, privately.

I realize that this thread became somewhat hijacked when the focus became that of the issue b/w Bullgooseshaving & Paradigm Shaveware as opposed to your intention of alerting & discussing this new razor. So this will be the last post here from me, in order to add another perspective regarding that issue referred too.

One of the reasons I come to forum’s like this is to find out whether a producer is acting in an acceptable manner, to me, so that I can make my own judgement on their character which will influence whether a potential purchase is made. I think that is an invaluable function of a forum & see this as being of great benefit to the particular community involved. I would rather be alerted to a potential issue, and have whatever info. or sources made available so that I can make a judgement & not simply rely on others opinions, or say so (therefore one of the reasons to have that info. remain public so that it can be referred back too), than not have it brought to my attention.

I understand that in the course of making that info. available we are going to have all sorts of opinions etc being expressed & so the ‘tone’ of that forum may not be to the liking of some participants at times, guess that is what the moderators are for, but I would think a very sizable amount of participants here would rather be alerted to those potential issues so that they can do research & make their own judgements.

Hopefully, going forward now with this thread the participation will be about the development of this new razor by Bullgooseshaving.

I had two 17-4’s. Both gone. Good razor at the time but there are better designs/DE razors available now.
