Bufflehead Soaps

Thank you, I am very relieved that I purchased what I hoped I would! I was really looking forward to trying duck fat based shaving soap!

When mine arrived it did not look this pretty , but certainly had different colors and layers.

Below is a picture of the soap right out of the box. After I took the picture I  removed the soap from the tin, kneaded it thoroughly and put it back in a much more orderly manner

I'm still around. My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now and all of our attention has been focused on her.

That said, Bufflehead has always been a hobby of mine. I expect to have more stock once things quiet down after her birth.

I managed to snatch two tins of BH (Mannish Boy and Heirloom) on eBay, but after I received the soaps today, i found that the soap in one tin looked like it melted and solidified again during the transportation. However, the other soap came intact.  When I contacted the seller, she responded that these soaps of limited editions were made without duck fat and that might be the reason.  Could anybody comment on this, please?

I actually got an e-mail from the seller of that auction, but have yet to reply. Both of those soaps follow the exact same recipe. Were they sold as new? Mind posting some pictures?

Heat does have an affect on soap, but they generally return to their normal state after they've had the chance to cool to room temperature. Otherwise, it tends to be an issue from closing up the soap with excess water in the tin.

The different color layer is a result of pouring the hot processed soap into the tin. It's common with most all of them, but easily seen due to the color of mine.

Here is the picture that I took right after the package has arrived. The both soaps were sold as new, and one of them arrived intact, but without any ID on the inner side of the lid. I look forward to hearing about your news and I hope to acquire more of your soaps once they become available again!

Looks like it might have melted/been stored improperly. Though this time of year, it's hard to blame temps during shipping and especially if the other showed up looking as it's supposed to.

Did it harden back up?

I'm still around. My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now and all of our attention has been focused on her.

It did harden, but still remains pliable. I test-lathered them both and they worked similarly, if not identically. My main problem was that the seller mentioned that these two did not have any duck fat (as LEs) and I greatly appreciate your clarifying that all Bufflehead soaps have duck fat.

It will always be somewhat pliable, but it should still be firm.

Congrats on the coming addition to your family! I can honestly say nothing will ever prepare you for the experience but it's the basis for the best memories and they grow up way too fast! Wishing you and yours health and peace of mind!
