I took an evaporated milk can and punched holes in it to use the contents. Then after thoroughly sloshing dishwater in it and removing the paper label dried it completely. At that point I had a basically  intact can. A Dremel moto tool and a cutting wheel made the slot. A base coat of white and a finish coat of faux granite or some such finished it.
