Blade Banks

I like that muhle blade bank I just use a Masson jar took a cold chisel and punched a slot in the top works well.

bumping this as my prescription bottle is just about filled up with blades.

now I need to figure out how to get rid of them. do I just toss them in the trash or do they need to be taken somewhere?!!

Do NOT toss them in the trash as they are considered a bio hazard and really should be put into a sharps container. I took mine to the school nurse at the school I work at and she did just that for me. Any recycle place will take them also.

I've had good luck using a emptied broth can. Buy a new can of broth and cut a small slit in the top and empty contents/rinse. The empty can is a stable, solid and a very safe sealed storage container - especially when I had small grand kids around. When full put a piece of tape across the slit for extra safe trash disposal. You can even decorate the can. I spray painted mine black.

This. If you cut the slit in the side of the can near the top, when it's full you can just crush it down to seal it and make sure no blades can come out.

I took a wideboy Gatorade bottle, removed the label and washed it out. It's easy enough to unscrew the cap and throw the blades in. The bottle is thick plastic and anyone can see in it to see what it is. It's about as close as you can get to having a sharps container without buying one.

Now the question becomes, what do you guys do when you fill up the bottle? Do you recycle it, or do you scrap it because it's stainless steel? Biohazard isn't an issue because u can always throw in some bleach and water to keep things clean.

I wouldn't worry about the bleach water. When it's full just take it to your doctor's office and they will dispose of it. Hospital's will take them also.

I use a deodorant container. After the deodorant is gone pull out the base cut out the stem put a slit in the cap bingo

I use a 5lb protein tub for my blade banking. Plastic is very thick so I don't have to worry about creating a biohazard problem. Additionally the twist cap I believe is much safer then a slit in a traditional blade bank.

I can hold thousands of blades in this thing.

I use one of those sealed moneyboxes that you have to open with a tin opener. Safe and with enough room to last numerous lifetimes lol
