I don’t gain any pleasure in criticising your Blackbird, but I just want to let the gentleman know that he is not alone in feeling what he feels when using the Blackbird. You might put it down to technique, but why should one bother trying to make the Blackbird work on their stubble, when they can get another razor (for me Timeless or Wolfman) and it works straight away?

I’ve always been supportive of other razor makers and continue to do so. I’ve guided potential customers to other brands several times when I think it’s in their best interest. I also welcome and encourage negative reviews and don’t believe that negativity should be stifled or ignored. But, I will always step up to defend my design decisions when I feel the criticism is incorrect or misguided. That’s all. I don’t at all mind when people don’t like my razors, but the rationale matters. No hard feelings whatsoever and if you’re ever in SF I’d love to buy you a beer. Smile

No hard feelings here, and just to demonstrate I’m not biased I just got rid of a brand new Wolfman WR2 because, despite all the hype, I don’t think it’s a good shaver.

Bummer. The BBS-1 is my favorite non-Blackland razor.

I have all three of the Blackbirds and I don't get any 'chatter' from them, whatsoever, unless I am oblivious to it. The razor(s) just work, for me, as opposed to the likes of the Wolfman and Timeless that I have had. This hobby of ours will always be a YMMV thing. Smile

Just decided to give the BB SB a difficult test. Took the razor with a twice used Feather and shaved my chest hairs which are much courser than my beard. There was no blade chatter or skipping whatsoever. I've had two great Shaves with the BB OC in my Shave Off so in my humble opinion I believe there is a technique issue here with the gentlemen. Also what blade did you use on your one and only shave with the BB before selling it?

I've had more than my fair share of using just about every modern high end razor and I've found that I've been able to get a very good shave with all of them. With good preparation, the right blade for the razor and your face along with a good solid technique. Yes some razors require less passes than others to obtain a solid BBS shave but I haven't had any real issues with a single one of them! IMO I think you should have given the razor a few more shaves before blaming the razor. Remember a good carpenter never blames his tools!

I have used all the Blackland releases and have never experienced blade chatter. I believe blade choice, technique and prep play a huge part. A sharp blade made of steel cutting a piece of hair is not going to spring unless it is approaching what it’s cutting at a poor angle or it is very dull.

But in your world shave off with the bb sb didn't you report it having some chatter?

I believe in the review during the shave off he thought it might be the blade

Yes I did but it was the blade that day that I believe was a dud and I tired it with a different blade in it and no issue whatsoever also when I used the OC I got a great shave with it. So it had to be the blade.. which is the reason I asked the gentleman what blade he used for his first shave as that could have been the problem.

Gsb, personna red, and med prep, 2 shaves each. One thing I have noticed is an audible "click" the final turn every time I put a blade in. And before anyone states the obvious yes, the blade is in place and the sound isn't from it snapping into place.

Maybe a sharper blade like a Kai which is also thicker would help. Worth a try.
