vates,
Is that some sort of DE89 variant?

Of Maggards, West Coast Shave, & Italian Barber sites, which of their branded DE razors are the best value?

It's a regular EJ89 but with a shorter handle and for a very lucrative price. I bought a couple for my friends. They're quite happy.

For a quick and cheap start, the feather popular. Very mild, smooth and forgiving. Extremely difficult to nick yourself with it. Only $12 on amazon I think? Occasionally you can find a Gillette Blue Tip for around $20 and that would be my top reccomendation. Man that thing shaves incredible. Super smooth, mild and fairly efficient considering how mild it is. It shaves better then most of the premium razors I've tried lol. I highly recommend anyone that hasn't tried one to pick one up. Amazing razor and definitely staying in the den forever.

Even though we sell our own razor (EJ clone), the Gillette King Gillette is an excellent newbie razor. The handle grip could be better, but that’s the only knock I have.

While I think the Henson is a better choice, this is a solid choice I had forgotten about. Their prices have also dropped lately on the famous auction site if you hunt for a cheap one. (I have used and own both too )

I’ve given the Razorock Gamechanger .68-P to several friend as their first DE and they’ve all loved it. The SS Lupo is also very good. I’d recommend those two for sure.

For a beginner? Henson Shaving AL13 Medium. Too mild for me personally, but a beginner couldn't do better.
I have their Ti22 Aggressive on order, and can't wait for it to be shipped. A brilliant and innovative design.
