I noticed that option isn’t available on the site. Did you just ask him for a .94 after placing your order?
I did. I ordered an .86 at time of purchase. Once I got order confirmation I sent an email requesting .94 gap and a 100mm WRH1 with 4 sections of knurling. I offered to pay an upcharge, just send me an invoice.

James replied back on Monday, order was on a Saturday. He said he would handle both requests. I told him thanks and offered to pay extra again. The razor was shipped at no additional cost.

I'll definately let you know my thoughts on the 94. I'm excited because the 86 is the best razor I own.

That’s so great, I’ve also had nothing but great service from James after placing an order.
Absolutely agreed on the .86, there’s nothing like it IMO.
Now that I know that’s an option I’ll have to pick up a .94 next time they’re available. I’d really like a Darwin handle this time. Thanks for feeding my RAD, brother!

I don't think you need any help from me! Haha.

He is now offering the Darwin. He let me buy one a couple months ago when they weren't officially for sale. He also sold me the Darwin stand!

I think I can be done ordering until alternate materials come out. I'm hoping I can show a little restraint until then anyway.

How long you had an 86? What other razors do you have to compare it to?

I swear his heads get smoother with increased gap. I dunno how or why. Thoughts?

No, no, I’ve already begun blaming you when my wife asks why I keep buying razors ;P

Oh man, that’s so sweet. I didn’t realize that was even an option.

His site says alternate metals will be back when he’s done with his shop move so I may wait and get my .94 in bronze or brass. But like you said, the whole restraint thing, haha.

I got the .86 OC in December of last year. Other than vintage stuff, I’ve got a Timeless Bronze SB (too mild), .74 OC WR1, 2013 R41, iKon Tech, Paradigm 17-4, RR GC, EJ DE89, and a Pearl OC. On the Charoal Goods list waiting for a Level 3 and am probably gonna pull the trigger on the Dart this week as well. The .86 OC WR1 is easily my favorite razor out of all of these and the only one I’d keep if I could only have one.

Absolutely agree on the smoothness of the .86 vs the .74 and I kinda regret buying the .74 because it never gets used.

Oh man, I’m not home so I totally forgot to compare my Karve razor with the D, E, and F plates. Great razor especially for the price but it’s still bested by the 17-4 and the .86 WR1. There’s probably some other I’m forgetting but that must mean they don’t get used very often, haha.

Have you ever shaved with a BBS-1? I’d love to hear a comparison with the larger gap WR1’s.

I sold my Karve E and F within a week. It just wouldn't crack my top 5, so I've no use for it. The F is efficient but more harsh than I'm willing to accept. It is still a very nice razor for the price.

I've not used a BBS-1. Another member here who shares my appreciation for efficiency and has the razor assures me it would be too mild for my liking. That doesn't mean I don't still want one but for the price they go for I will take a WR1 in Copper with 2 handles and a stand. Another friend who has similar tastes in razors sold his BBS-1 because it was too mild...so I'm OK not having one.

All new razors I buy, no matter the price point, gets compared to the WR1s. If it doesn't shave pretty close to a WR1, it's gone and that money goes to James. I've sold off some good gear and replaced it.

I've come close to selling my 17-4 because it has no blade feel. I don't like that at all. I keep it but rarely use it. If I get a Copper WR1 AND a Brass...the 17-4 will be gone to fund one of those.

I hear you about the 74 gap. Mine only gets used if I shave 24 hours growth. I will certainly keep it tho because it has its place.

And seriously....you tell your wife when you order a razor? Haha. Sucker. (Kidding)

I don't yet have that many shaves with the Karve but I recall having similar sentiments. That is also somewhat akin to my feeling about the iKon Tech, tons of blade feel and efficiency but it can be harsh. The Tech is the king of blade feel for me though. Oh, I also have a Fatip Grande V2 which is decent but it seldom gets used.

Good info on the BBS-1, thank you. There's another one on the 'bay right now that I'm watching and I'm debating whether to place a bid.

What is your preference between brass, bronze, and copper in the WR1's? I've never read where anyone compared them. Do they shave that much differently than SS or is it more aesthetic preference?

Agreed about the lack of blade feel on the 17-4 but I keep it around as my lazy shaver because of its efficiency. That being said, I can get the exact same lazy shave from the R41.

I'm sure after I've cycled through some of my more recent acquisitions the .74 will get some more play. Maybe James would be willing to adjust the blade gap on the .74 the next time I'm able to place an order.

LOL, I do but only because I have to share my excitement with those around me and she usually falls victim. She's much more concerned with the gun and watch acquisitions, believe me.

I got my BBS-1 razor over a year ago, after over a year of being/waiting on the older 'Wait List'.
I have found that the information about finding the proper shaving angle (which is rather a small angle range) is very important. Basically, do NOT 'ride the cap' but 'ride the bar' of the razor head. In other words with the razor handle close to (or parallel to) the face.
I have had two very good BBS shaves the last two times using the BBS-1 razor (Wizamet blade, UFO Grand TiTan L handle, which weighs 109 grams) for the first set of passes, followed by a Charcoal Goods Level 2 on a UFO TiTan L handle for the second set of passes. I pretty much only do 2 passes with a few touch-ups and shave off 2-days growth. I also have a rather tough beard.
Below is a recent SOTD photo/post of the last shave (today).... JAY
