I'm curious about the Sandalwood actually.  It seems that many reviews I've read were thumbs down on it, that there wasn't enough sandalwood or something?  Now, I do not LOVE earthy sandalwoods honestly, so if its not earthy, thats fine with me.

We wanted to do a bit of a different take on it. Despite the fact that I stressed to people that it's fruity (which it is), people didn't seem to take me seriously on the point. Big Grin

It's a fruity sandalwood, and the currant is definitely the foremost note in the fragrance, but lathering it will bring out more of the woodiness. That said, it does not smell like real sandalwood oil; a lot of people wanted me to basically re-create the scent of either Proraso Red or AOS Sandalwood, which is not a reasonable request for an artisan product in this price range. Companies like Proraso and AoS/Gillette/P&G can buy sandalwood oil and high-quality synthetic substitutes by the metric ton (or the truckload or the tankerload or what-have-you). Barrister & Mann does not have that kind of purchasing power, so it's simply not possible. Good, realistic sandalwood replacements can often cost nearly as much as the real thing.

Please don't change the Latha Sandalwood. Yes, it has a strong currant scent but that's what makes it stand out in my opinion. It's such a beautiful fall scent and it stands out from a lot of the other woody/pumpkiny scents you see that time of year.

Also my wife told me to ask you if there was any other scents planned in the Latha line for women like the Velvet.  She loves the stuff but would like another scent to change it up every now and then.

We're considering the splash. However, we're probably going to be killing Velvet off; it really doesn't sell. There just aren't that many women who use brush and soap these days. Undecided

How sad, Will. I so wanted more ladies here at DFS and more of them to offer their opinions on our merchants.

My wife uses a brush and soap. She went through a tub of the velvet but the scent just wasn't for her. She has a tub of the DFS soap that she likes but I think she would appreciate other women scented soaps. Some of the other vendors that used to carry women scents seem to have killed them off as well. It's too bad.

Unfortunately, there's just not enough of a market for us to justify sinking more money into it.

I fully understand why artisans like you cannot do something that loses money. However, Barrister_N_Mann, there are EdTs that are sold successfully as unisex scents. Annick Goutal's Eau du Sud comes to mind, for example. Would that work for shaving soap scents?

Shaving for me is like playing golf, that's my time, and as much as I love my wife, I would never play with her.  We probably end up throwing clubs at each other, lol.....Shaving would be more dangerous, lol......

Interesting. The only one I had trouble with was Fougere.

But that is a primary reason why companies need to sell samples. There is simply no way I am willing to pay a full price and find out there is something in there I am allergic to.

I recommend Taiga. During testing, I evaluated the fragrance while on a trip to Maine and it was perfect for the environment. Smile

I love Taiga- would definitely get my vote.

And because I am weak for Barrister_N_Mann soaps in general, just placed my order for the Lavanda and a couple other things. Keep you posted SCShaver .

I'll be curious to know how it works out. To reiterate though, I'm really thrilled with adding this line to my staples these past few weeks. Who knows, maybe next year we get another special limited like Le Petit Chypre.

It might, but there are lots of other scents already in our catalog that are quite unisex as well. Smile

I'm going to propose the outrageous notion that all scents are, in fact, unisex. Or completely lacking gender. Go forth and sniff happily, boys and girls!

I agree, David. The problem is the way it is marketed.
