Barrister and Mann

Speaking of LGC, I'm a bit out of the loop but what happened to the bottle of LGC fragrance that was going to be auctioned off?  How much did it end up going for?

It does indeed exist in a jar, but I cannot find someone who's willing to engrave it for me. Since we're located in the middle of nowhere, it can be a little tough to find. However, as soon as I'm able to find a glass engraver for it, I will fill the bottle and put it up for auction.

Funny you should ask that, actually. When I originally started the company, I kept the ampersand, but, after the LLC was formed and the trademark forms filed, we decided to go with "Barrister and Mann." So I guess Barrister and Mann it is.

A language professional, you say? What do you do with languages?

"Ur" in place of "your"?!   Matthew, please, please, please tell me you're joking!

Will, thanks for the explanation! It did seem to me that the ampersand was used more on some of your earlier products, and “and” seems to be the norm nowadays. Both look nice in their own way, the ampersand perhaps more classic, the “and” more modern.

My bilingual (Finnish and English) background, along with a helping of Swedish I learned later in life, has led me to work as a translator, interpreter and proofreader. I try to keep a keen eye on details.  

Freddy, I wish I could say the “ur” thing is just a bad joke, but it is not. Even my mother-in-law uses it in her text messages! I can only imagine what popular English will look like in another 10 years…

I'm the guy that uses correct spelling and punctuation in text messages.  I too am a "language professional".  Twenty-five years as in-house counsel with energy companies that are heavily staffed with engineers for whom english is always a second language regardless of the language they actually speak.  I've laughed that I was a highly paid english teacher correcting engineers' spelling. grammar and punctuation.  This is not a comment on ethnicity but rather, profession.  I have a ton of respect for engineers, my son is training as one right now.  

All of the acronyms and abbreviations in the shaving world has been a bit of a hassle for me too but I do get YMMV.  LOL drives me nuts because its ubiquitous and its redundant.  Laughing is by definition done out loud.  Its not laughing if its inside your head.  The abbreviation should be L.  I also hate what autocorrect does to communication.  Sure its sometimes humorous but its often ridiculous and distracts from the intent.

Glad to know that the correct legal trademark registration is Barrister and Mann so I can now dispense with the ampersand.

Marko, I have thoroughly enjoyed your stories of working with folks who use their English as a second language.  As for Will and the ampersand in the company name, I actually like it.  The problem is that some of his tubs have the ampersand but some have 'and' written out.  I try to look on the specific product and post it as it is written.  I think Barrister_N_Mann has a lot to answer for.

Well, once we debut the new packaging in 11 days, all of our packaging will start to incorporate "and."

Will, what percentage of users would you estimate had allergy issues with kyovu? I was at your site and notice its been taken back to the lab for a tune up. What is the ingredient that seems to be the culprit? I'm looking forward to the new kyovu.
