We're very seriously considering bringing it back next year. There will be more info on that front as we complete other projects.

Funny you should ask that, actually. When I originally started the company, I kept the ampersand, but, after the LLC was formed and the trademark forms filed, we decided to go with "Barrister and Mann." So I guess Barrister and Mann it is.

A language professional, you say? What do you do with languages?

Will, thanks for the explanation! It did seem to me that the ampersand was used more on some of your earlier products, and “and” seems to be the norm nowadays. Both look nice in their own way, the ampersand perhaps more classic, the “and” more modern.

My bilingual (Finnish and English) background, along with a helping of Swedish I learned later in life, has led me to work as a translator, interpreter and proofreader. I try to keep a keen eye on details.  

Freddy, I wish I could say the “ur” thing is just a bad joke, but it is not. Even my mother-in-law uses it in her text messages! I can only imagine what popular English will look like in another 10 years…

I'm the guy that uses correct spelling and punctuation in text messages. I too am a "language professional". Twenty-five years as in-house counsel with energy companies that are heavily staffed with engineers for whom english is always a second language regardless of the language they actually speak. I've laughed that I was a highly paid english teacher correcting engineers' spelling. grammar and punctuation. This is not a comment on ethnicity but rather, profession. I have a ton of respect for engineers, my son is training as one right now.

All of the acronyms and abbreviations in the shaving world has been a bit of a hassle for me too but I do get YMMV. LOL drives me nuts because its ubiquitous and its redundant. Laughing is by definition done out loud. Its not laughing if its inside your head. The abbreviation should be L. I also hate what autocorrect does to communication. Sure its sometimes humorous but its often ridiculous and distracts from the intent.

Glad to know that the correct legal trademark registration is Barrister and Mann so I can now dispense with the ampersand.

Marko, enjoyed reading your comment. I have the utmost respect for engineers — thereâ€s one in my family. Language is (usually) not their job. Now, some of them are very good with their written expression, as well. Others, well … thatâ€s where some professional editorial help may be needed.

Thanks Matsilainen notwithstanding being a lawyer in an energy company, I was always more comfortable in the company of the EGGS - engineers, geologists and geophysicists. The technical aspect of the business is far more interesting and a little less political. I agree that the written word is not why they're there and I was happy to help them express their ideas in writing. One of my most memorable examples of hidden talent happened a number of years ago when I was reviewing an engineer's draft external presentation. It contained images (photographs) that he had found on the internet using an image search. I told him there were copyright issues and that he needed the consent of the copyright owners. I also suggested some possible work-arounds. The next draft showed up with the photographs replaced with nice freehand sketches of the photographs drawn by the engineer. They were pretty good sketches. From that point forward that individual's presentations always contained hand drawn sketches. "L"
