Afraid I can't tell you that. Chemistry trick. However, I WILL tell you that REAL petrichor is actually the smell of the molecule Geosmin ($35/gram), which is a distress chemical released by spores in the soil when agitated by falling water. Basically, they're screaming for help.

Learn something new everyday. I thought it was something to do with the rain and what was in the air to cause the smell. Now I have a better way to describe what I'm smelling.
