Got my 42 in the mail today as well. Picked up the EdT and a towel. I have a couple of tubs of soap already. I love the cocktail recipe postcard. That will certainly be put to good use.

Yes, the postcard is great. I have the "Don't Panic" side posted up in a prominent place by my work space.

Could you, or someone else who reads this, please try out the recipe and report back, when convenient? Pictures would be fantastic, too, if possible. I, uh, can't touch the stuff listed in the ingredients, unfortunately, but I'm curious as hell to see it brought to life. Any chance a kind soul here would allow me to live vicariously through their experience with this? I'd really like to know how the pop rocks work out.

What is the recipe?

You used too much anise!" In reality, the anise level is very low, though the isobutyl quinoline and seaweed absolute enhance its presence a bit. Smile

Is that why you discontinued Anise & Vetiver?  One of my favourites which is on deck for tomorrow Smile  There is something to be said for leaving things to the imagination rather than "constraining" the experience in the manner you describe.  There are definitely those who wish to know every detail and others who are happy to allow their nose and their mind to take them where it will.
Thanks,
Marko

No, Anise & Vetiver was discontinued because people just straight-up didn't like it. Big Grin I've actually made a few prototypes for myself that add lavender to the mix, and the combination works extremely well, but it's not something I'd ever want to put into production. People are just too weird about anise and fennel in general.

There are those that like it too :p

I would love to have something with more of pop of anise / fennel.

I have the initial release and like it.  But I don't reach for it often.  It's something you really have to be in the mood for like a late shave on a winter's eve where you might have been having a tipple yourself which puts you in mind to use it.

That said, if he did an Islay Scotch with lots of peat I would use it daily (hint! hint!)

I've actually been kicking the idea of a Drambuie scent around for some time. OSmile

There are only a few soaps I feel can really perform well for me to head shave with. But today I decided to give Le Grand Chypre this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the process and results. I don't blame you for changing over to sunflower oil but I must say I really love the formula of the Glissant with Sweet Almond Oil. I think my skin gets along with it really well. I think this will become my new go to soap for head shaving before I start growing out my hair soon. I actually like your White Label as well as Latha for head shaves but haven't had a chance to try out the production Glissant in a head shave.

Hoping to try a couple of the different formulas soon. There was the Soapmakers of Awesometown and now the Reserve formula. Any ones I missed?

SoA was really a beta for Reserve so that we could collect feedback and make alterations to the formula accordingly. So you're not really missing much by not having tried SoA; Reserve is a FAR superior product. Smile Glad you're digging the LGC, though, Zac!

FANTASTIC!  I used what very little I have left of my Cheshire soap and Kyovu aftershave for yesterday's shave so I'm really happy about the soap.  However, like Marko, I am sorry that you are not bringing back the Kyovu line.  As much as I love my Cologne Russe and Reserve Classic aftershaves, for me, neither comes close to the face feel of the Kyovu.  When I got my sample, it was a real eye opener but, unfortunately, when I wanted to get a full bottle, it was discontinued.  Boy, am I nursing that last half of the sample.  Fortunately, a little goes a long way. Smile

It proved to be exorbitantly expensive to manufacture, and I would guarantee you that most people are not willing to pay what we would have to ask in order to continue to make it. I have long-term plans to attempt to reformulate it in such a way that we could make it on a large scale, but no promises. Sorry folks.

I actually did some preparation for this release. I  got the book and read it just this past week so I could experience the scent as an extension of the fictional world. And I'm so glad I did. There's a wonderful connection between the spirit of the book and Will's creation here: from the scent itself, to the packaging, and the little promotional details, all of which tie together in such a smart way. I'm really impressed.

The scent is wonderful. And it's a bit of a mind-bender, which is very appropriate in this case. The different components of 42 merge well to form a coherent, pleasant scent, yet somehow they manage to maintain their independence, too. This is a bright sunny morning with a twist of lemon and a spot of tea, and outside a bulldozer gets ready to raze your house to the ground. Just before the world blows up. And suddenly you find that life is not what you think.

Tranquil summer meets end of the world. And, of course, a whale. The ambergris inclusion is a bit of genius here.

Will, maybe you could consider a thematic structure to some of your future releases? Can you stick with the whale, add some essence of salt, sea, and obsession and do a Moby Dick release?

Glad you like it! I actually had an idea when we first launched to produce a soap very much along those lines, which I privately christened "Ahab." We'll see if the idea ever comes to fruition, but it probably wouldn't be that difficult to do. Smile

I would really love to see you make that one. Hell, I'd buy it just for the packaging alone, I'm sure. I can imagine so many possibilities.
Anyone wanting to read the book to coincide with the release would have to set aside a lot more time than I did for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy though. Time well spent, in both cases.

Will, I fully understand and believe that you mentioned this once before.  I wasn't complaining, rather bemoaning my own lack of speed on ordering a full bottle when it was available.  The quality of your products, your inventiveness with everything from scents to packaging, and your availability here at DFS speak volumes, all in a most positive way. Very interesting, SoA a beta for Reserve? Clever. Ahab? That should be interesting as the good Captain is a thoroughly unpleasant person with a single minded obsession in regards to the destruction of the great white whale. I'm looking forward to the scent profileSmile

Two things. Will Bay Rum be released in the glissant base when it is put into the new packaging? And, without regard to Kyovu what I really wanted to know was whether you would ever be releasing a Bay Rum aftershave splash. Your Bay Rum is an excellent version and since the demise of kyovu your Bay Rum soap has been rendered companionless, a lone wolf. Sure there are plenty of bay rum aftershaves out there but there is only one Barrister and Mann Bay Rum and just so you know, I'm not above begging Big Grin

You've actually already asked me both of those things. Big Grin To reiterate, yes, Bay Rum will be switched to Glissant when it debuts in the new packaging, and we will be releasing matching Tonique aftershaves for the remainder of our Classic soaps (Seville, Cheshire, and Bay Rum) in July. Smile

Barrister's Reserve Fern in September! It smells awesome! I think people will be really pleased with it! I'm keeping my fingers crossed Will, haha.
