Did bar soap my entire life, til a buddy explained for our climate bar soap has a lot of powdery agents that comprise the soap, that dries out your skin. Team body wash ever since.

I agree. Very gentle on the skin. I am simply not a fan of body washes.

Body wash isn't a consideration for me - all bar soap all the time. The variety is great and my only beef would be those massive bars that are almost too big to hold even if you've got large hands and you risk breaking a toe or losing a toenail if you were to drop it directly on your foot. There's about a week of tense showers until the bar reduces to a manageable size. Stirling soaps are among my favourites, the Barbershop scent is awesome and I like the Bay Rum a close second.

I use both.

I see the benefits of both. Why let one exclude the other ?

Body wash is faster and easier to apply and I get a more airy less dense lather from it, which actually for me is beneficial. I don't shave with my soap lather, I wash my body.
Some bath soaps create an almost too dense lather and takes more water to get the right lather.

If I have the extra time in the shower, I use one of my 12-15 bath soaps, and usually end the shower with using a bit of one of my shower gels.

So I say both.

I use bar soap 90% of the time.

I only use body wash when I'm really icky from doing yard work or changing tires etc and need a real scrubbing.

I just ordered me some Soap Commander bar soap and I will have to see how I like it. I have been a body wash guy for a while and never gave too much thought to bar soap, but that was also the mass produced stuff sold in the stores. Now that I have gotten into wet shaving and seeing all the different artisan soap makers I am hoping the bar soap works for me. I have the tendency to be pretty dry skinned so I'm hoping the bar soap helps.

the soap commander bars worked fine for me, but they are very heavily scented.

Claus, I have them.  I would say thety are reasonably hard and last a long time.  They are large.  The water here in San Diego is hard but I can bring up a nice lather with it.
