Autoclave sterilisation for used razors

Hi gents. I've come across a good deal on a used Merkur 39C. The seller says it has been sanitised with ozoned water and alcohol (which should suffice) but I have a friend who is a dentist and has offered to sterilise it in his autoclave.

So, question is, would the temperature of the autoclave damage the chrome finish of the razor?. As far as I know it's well over 120° C.

What about regular boiling, or boiling it in an express pressure pot?. I've heard those reach conditions similar to those of an autoclave.

Yup, that does it for me and I have never had a problem with razors given to me or that I have purchased on eBay. Before disposable shavette blades, a barber would finish a haircut by shaving the back of the neck with a straight and then putting the straight in Barbicide.

It's a Merkur, I wouldn't trust the finish to anything outside what bakerbarber described.

Thanks for the replies, gents. I was also in fear that the finish wouldn't withstand the temperatures and pressure environment of the autoclave. I'll have to look into the chemical way of sterilisation.

Baking soda and liquid dishwashing soap mixed into a paste and scrubbed with a old toothbrush. Rinse with hot water. I have never used anything more harsh than that.

You don't need to sterilize it. Just wash it in hot water and use scrubbing bubbles the clean off any crud that is built up on it.

Clean it and go. An autoclave? Oh myyyyyy! If you are really concerned, just use a 91% alcohol on it. I think that's overkill, but it'll make you feel better.
