I'm pretty sure an autoclave will do damage to many metals. Even if it's not zamak, heating and cooling metal even that small of an amount can result in some nasty unforeseen issues.

Sterilizing it on a dry cycle won't hurt it. Metal implements are autoclave sterilized all the time. It's less harsh than running it through the dishwasher. It just isn't necessary. The scrubbing bubbles will disinfect your razor just like it will disinfect your bathroom tile.

So, thanks again for the good information provided. I'm at the other side of the pond and there is no "scrubbing bubbles" here, but if I'm able to see what the composition of that stuff is, I'm sure I'll find something similar over here.

Its just a foaming bathroom cleaner that comes in a spray can. You should be able to find something very similar wherever you're at.

Whatever you use to clean the Loo (nothing with bleach though) should do.

Actually, the CDC recommends 20 mins. in 70% alcohol. It kills better.

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

Correct, that is assuming though that we are dealing with a live virus / bacterium. Everything we are / should be afraid of (AIDS / HIV, Hep (pick a letter) etc) cannot survive for long without some sort of "host" cells. Unless what you are receiving is damp, you really are not in much danger. Reassuring yourself with a alcohol dip / spray is really enough.

An autoclave will render items sterile, which is what is wanted for surgery. Even Personna Med Prep blades are not truly "sterile" as the wrapping is not air tight. That doesn't mean though that they are not used in hospitals. I am personally a germ-a-phobe even though I work in healthcare. That doesn't mean though that I obsess over things which I know have no impact on me or my health. This includes shaving gear I receive.

All of the "bugs" wingdo mentions will wash off with soap and water, as will spores or methicillin resistant Staph. aureus and Strep. B.
I do want emphasize that, despite popular wisdom, alcohol DOES NOT kill germs. It just cleans the area that was swabbed and/or desiccates any microbes left on the surface. You still have wash/wipe them away, as some do not die when dehydrated. Soaking for 15 min. in hot water and anti-bacterial hand soap will be much more effective than alcohol and denaturing and killing the "bugs".

Again, heaps of useful information. What about iodine solution?. Would it be effective as a sterilizer?. What about the plating, would it damage it?.

No need for going that far... Even if someone shaved with the razor recent, cut him self and left blood stain on it, I don't see how can any of whatever pathogens if any can be enough to survive and affect you.... I usually either wash the razor with soft soap that kills 99% of germs.... Or just wipe it with 99% ethanol that I have for working on electonics
