Whoa, hold on...Couple of things to point out...
First--Nobody cares what other forums you participate on, nor for how long. That is not meant as a dig, it is meant to say, we don't care if you were the most beloved or the most despised. We ONLY care about how you conduct yourself HERE, on THIS forum. All other forums are their own entities, and your participation there, or lack thereof, is inconsequential. Everyone gets the same opportunity to present themselves here. You either rock it or blow it. It's entirely up to you, and has nothing to do with your participation elsewhere.
Second--A person violating the rules of B&B has no effect on this forum, despite your assertion. In order to "castrate" any rules on this forum, you would have to violate the rules of this forum. Just as your participation at B&B does not matter here, neither does your violation of rules at B&B...or lack thereof...
Lastly--"Scalping" only hurts the community if you are someone that doesn't want to see the cost/value of goods and services rise. If a product can be purchased, at retail, and turned around and sold after-market for twice the original cost, good job to the entrepreneur that bought it and flipped it. If that activity subsequently causes the original producer to increase their prices, so be it. It is a reaction to real market values. That's called good business...from both the original producer and the after-market reseller.
Now...if a forum has a rule against said tactics, so be it. Such is the right of said forum. But that rule protects no one outside of the owners of that forum. That rule does nothing for this forum, and nothing for the community. In fact, that rule is ONLY in place to protect the PROFITS of that forum.
Make no mistake...any rule on any forum that explicitly limits the asking price of resold products is done PURELY out of self-preservation of that specific forum. It does NOTHING to preserve any sense of community or righteousness OUTSIDE of that forum.
To presume that it effects any larger community is a fallacy at best.
