I was recently banned elsewhere for not knowingly violating a forum's rules. I posted a simple response from an artisan on his curing process. Apparently he was a banned vendor. I had no way of knowing he was ostracized.

Any kind of forum owned by a vendor, whether shaving or another hobby, is not a forum. As you said it's just advertising that business and nothing more. The worst part is how can anyone trust the reviews of that businesses products by their disciples?

I love that there is an active vendor and artisan community on DFS - I want them all here whether they're promoting their products or just discussing aspects of shaving and shaving related things. There is such a wealth of knowledge on DFS and a willingness to freely share it with the community. I know I wouldn't be happy on a pseudo-forum that was a front for pushing one guy's goods and/or service while keeping all others out. Why would anyone willingly sign on to the online equivalent of a Totalitarian Regime? Oops, time to report for my re-programming sessionBig Grin

Fargo,

I had absolutely no idea Kerry from Phoenix & Beau was a banned vendor and still don't know why he was. Phil sent me a PM then I posted why was my thread banned. Why not Fargo? No idea this guy from north of London was banned. I live in Vermont. Simple as that. It's not a shaving forum just a business. No worries at all but don't pretend otherwise.

As to KAV, apparently he is on a flight somewhere or nowhere. He was gifted stuff. So what. It was nice of Phil. Kav seems ok. His ramblings have little to do with anything if you read through the lines.

When the forum was started in 2012 it was fine. Downhill from around 2014 gents.

Fargo,
I never knew he was a banned vendor. How would I? Phil sent me a PM as to why he deleted the thread and then I posted a thread asking why? Why not? A buddy of mine on the forums came to North America to get away from that claustrophobic approach, and here he sees it again. Look no one knew in 2012 this would turn out this way when that particular forum was started but it did.

Fargo, are you kidding me? Ravi posted a thread how wonderful the One Blade was and he was GIFTED a second One Blade free of charge telling all of us its phenomenal.

Are you serious?

Now the RX is the finest single edge razor ever made. Don't you see a pattern there?

It's wonderful to run a business but just say so and be transparent about having a forum attached to that business.

Gentlemen, what happens on another site, unless it directly impacts DFS, need not be discussed here. Openly discussing what you perceive to be the negative actions of other sites or, worse, specific members of that site, has no business here. If you feel strongly about continuing this discussion then that is what PMs and e-mails are for.

I agree. A non mentionable recently propped a rant about members here. It's silly childish behavior. Let's not go there. Life is too short. I suggest we all do what we're comfortable with and leave others happily do the same. Best...

All of the consumer reviews were deleted on that site.  That really irked me as I gave considerable thought to my now-deleted reviews.

don't worry, we'll have a very nice, dedicated review system on this forum within the next month or so, I hope.

That sounds grossly unfair to me. Frequent banning members and/or vendors is a sign of a highly dysfunctional forum, wetshaving or otherwise. It indicates the administrator and moderators are losing control and resorting to drastic measures to re-establish authority. They fail to realize that authority comes from trust and respect, not force and intimidation.

What?!? That's insane, and will devalue the content of the affected forum. Who in their right mind would want to do that? Puzzling indeed.

If the shoe fits... Does it?

Since he is banned, that is a moot point. Fargo, why don't you make your online home here? You too, Kav. You won't find any totalitarian behavior at Damn Fine Shave, and the content is not devalued by any conflict of interest. The icing on the cake is that there is a great deal of collegial vendor interaction with the other members.

If the author of the $10,000 eBay razor is reading this thread, he must be snickering. Wink

Great points all around Tbone. Free interaction with all artisans and vendors just works. I hope more gents see this and come over to DFS. I understand what they started here and I am impressed by the structure Andrew created. Amen indeed.
