Could you post a picture of the Personna Comfort coated blade package please?  Astra SP?  Is that the green or the blue package?  Its hard to go with  a good blade when you have a great blade.  I've been thinking about blades lately and why there is so much variation, or at least perceived variation when there really are very few variables in the blade manufacturing process.  Despite all the superlatives used in the blade names its basically all steel, stainless or not - I'd say most is stainless and then its all cut to the more or less identical shape and size and has an edge ground on to it.  Different coatings probably make up the greatest variability among the blades but do the coatings stay on for more than a shave or two?  I don't know but I do know that we all have a favourite blade or two and that its usually razor dependant as well so the gap, exposure and bend the razor subjects the blade to is important.  And lets not forget that all of the steel that makes the blades and the razors was mined out of the earth!! Ha!  No monkey ever did that  Big Grin  Thank your local miner.

What a great experiment, Paul! And I am happy that it proved 2 more soaps are in the Keep pile.

As for blades, I have almost given up on trying others unless they show up in the packing peanuts, you know? I am thoroughly sold on the Personna platinum chromes, and now have quite the supply. But I am grateful to you for sending me some Personna CC blades, which I have a hard time telling the difference between them and the platinum chromes, so much so that for less than $15 or thereabouts, a box of 100 CCs has found its way to the shave drawer! I know Dave loves the Wizamets, and I need to try one again from a tuck he sent me (Thanks, Dave!). And Nacets are great for me and I think I have about 50 yet. I like to mix it up every now and again, but I think I much prefer getting a great shave everytime rather than fool around with iffy blades and subpar (for me, YMMV!!) soaps. I have sort of adopted the coffee mantra I drink by, Life's too short to drink bad coffee, to shaving!

But back to your experiment: I may have to try that or something like it with a CC blade on one side and a Pt Chrome on the other! Now to figure out the best razor as I don't have 2 identical DE razors. Maybe the Overlander and the Yates 921. Hmmm. Time to plan my experiment, lol!

Great report Paul and glad you are finding what is going on! Oh, I just remembered. YouTube put a new video by Geofatboy in my feed. I hadn't watched Geo in some years, as I have our own Kentuckian to watch, but this video was in regards to skin irritation. He mentions the benefits of cold water shaving and this morning I tried that, to a lesser extent than he mentioned, as my rosacea is trying to flare up. My concession was warm water instead of hot and dang if it didn't feel good on my face! I will be experimenting some with this idea, but imagine tepid water is the lowest I'd go, as the thought of shaving with water as cold as my final splash/rinse makes me shiver! Geo told of guys have a bowl of ice cubes and placing the razor in that!

And guess what?!

I know you addressed this to Paul, but he kindly shared this information with me in the recent past. Here it the blade package I bought last month.

Forgive me for preempting Paul, but I had the same question until I recalled seeing these:

[Image: Personna-Lab-Blue.jpg?zoom=2&fit=1440%2C1080&ssl=1]

Also, the Astra SPs are in the green package and the SS in the blue.  I never bonded with the SPs, but FWIW I do use the SS occasionally.  I find the SS pretty mild but still effective.  Feathers are very sharp.  I got in the habit of using them once and tossing them long before I found others that do the same.  Kai's are special use for me when I want a drop more exposure, and Wizamets seem to be the most robust, widely razor friendly blades for me.  Wizamets get the call for a significant majority of my DE shaves.

Is it all in my head?  Could be, but I have so much other stuff in my head to worry about that I let possible blade preference foibles go.

Well my job is done here. Lol. Thanks Eric, thanks Mike!

Yep, the comfort coated comes in a little bit of a unique packaging. No five packs, just a cardboard box that you can tear open the corner and slide a blade out at a time. Of course, this might not be their only packaging. It's my understanding that persona makes most of the store brands. If it's the same "formula" as the comfort coated... Then the CC has more packaging options than any other blade on the market.

I'm with Mike... I don't know why, but I definitely notice a difference. I'm also in agreement with Eric ... Life's too short to shave with a bad blade.

Wow, July 6th was the past activity. Sheesh, I knew I'd drop the ball here. When I saw 666 posts, I decided I needed to bring this back to life ... At least for one more post.

So, I have been trying to downsize... That's been my speed recently. I've been moving stuff on, getting my "den" back to just my favorites. Still some ways to go, but I've made good progress. As a side effect, I've also built back up my STP box (thanks Tim, who I believe coined the phrase). It'll grow more before I'm done, I'm sure.

Eric has talked me into trying a Hydromagic for SEptember. Because I found a really good deal with a hydro and a gem push button, I'm trying that too. So, September should be an adventure.

Not much else is going on, but at least this thread has 667 posts now. Have a good evening folks!

(Edit: In the thread it says this is post 668. The number I'm seeing in Tapatalk must be 666 replies to the thread. I think. Well, either way it's moved forward.)

The Number of the Beast first made me think of the Book of Revelation. "...back to the Bible, where in Chapter 13 of The Book of Revelation, it reads: 'Let the one with understanding reckon the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.'"

Then Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast

And so I Googled it and found an interesting article.
