Same Astra Blade (shave #3) I had been using in the same Overlander. Nonetheless, a very nice shave... And a great start to the day.

Have a great day folks![Image: e66e03c3d1ad34817bc75d59e40e3b29.jpg]

On that topic, Mike... If you don't end up getting any satisfaction from Pasteur's, I'll send you one of the two I have enroute. Everyone deserves a little bit of Tabac in the den. Lol.

You are a prince Paul mrdoug,  and I thank you for you kind offer.  However, I am happy to say that I don't think it will be necessary.  Here is how the situation looks from my POV.

PASTEUR

Leandro et al have refunded both orders and asked me to reorder the non-Tabac items separately.  The graphic with the tallow formula has been removed from the Shaving Soap Refill product page.  The Shaving Soap Stick Refill page does still show "WITH TALLOW" and "In Stock", but it is the weekend now, and they probably have not gotten to changing that page yet.  At the moment, one of the refunds is still pending, and I am hoping this will not require more of my time, but I do not expect it will.  Assuming the second refund posts, I would have to say that Leandro and crew have handled the matter sensibly, fairly, and promptly.

AMAZON

The two Soap Refill pucks I ordered from Amazon arrived today, and they sure look like the real deal to me.  (See the photos.)  There are different review reports about whether or not the refills are tallow, and there are also different sellers offering refills through that page.  FYI I bought mine from Maple Prime.

That's awesome Mike. That definitely looks like Tallow. Guess whatever vendor they're on now still has it. My bad, I shouldn't have tried to steer you from it to begin with.

Also glad Pasteur's took care of the refund quickly. Wish you didn't have to jump through so many hoops to get it, but glad it worked out on one of the fronts.

This is a follow-on to our discussion of close to four months ago.

Mrs HighSpeed and I spent a delightful week at the beach with the kids and grandkids last week.  The travelling got me thinking about soap sticks - a very convenient option for face lathering travellers.  Pasteur currently offers a Tabac Original Shaving Soap Stick Refil 100g ** NEW FORMULA** for $8.99 and a Tabac Original Shaving Soap Stick 100g for $13.99.  I imagine the "NEW FORMULA" refill is non-tallow, but I just took delivery of the Original Shaving soap stick, and the box lists potassium and sodium tallowate among the ingredients:

I realize that folks may have stocked up all they want by now, but this looks like the real deal to me, and it seemed worth mentioning.

That's awesome Mike! Wonderful luck there.

My guess is they changed the website so they wouldn't have to worry during transition from old to new stock. If you think you're getting less, getting more is a bonus. The other way around makes for angry customers. Lol.

I've never tried Tabac as a stick. I have two stick refills left. I could just as easily put one in a holder to try. I know, for me, 'soft solids' like soap commander work well. I did not enjoy using the razorock WTP as much. That triple milled formula was too hard for my liking. I'll Probably hold off until my Tabac tub is low. That way, if I don't like the stick format, I have a place to grate it into. Always have an escape plan, lol.

I've been down about my shaves recently. I mentioned such in Eric's journal.

The razor has been the same, and even using my favorite tried and true blade hasn't helped. So, I am presuming it has to be the soap. Thus, I decided to try each of my soaps, using the same blade, razor and even brush, until I know which ones trigger problems.

Tonight I used Soap Commander Heritage. It went well, no irritation to speak of. The soap wasn't the most protective, but it did an admirable job. Post shave I didn't even NEED to use my balm. That's a good sign for the soap, for sure. This one will definitely stay. Fwiw, it was shave #2 on the blade (I'm only using these for two shaves).

Happy Friday DFS!

What Dave said! Probably drives us all a little nuts when things are not going as well as they used to. Glad to hear that the soap was good! Haven't used Soap Commander in years, mostly because it took so long to use it up, ha ha! I used to have this thing about having more than 3 soaps at a time. Now it's whatever fits!
Looking forward to hearing how it goes, buddy. Keep calm and shave on!

Thanks guys. The experiment continues...

This afternoon I wanted to see how the Hendrix Havana Breeze went. I used the same razor, same brush, but I did switch up the blade. I wanted to try the Astra again. Knowing full well this could be a problem, I had a Personna removed from it's wrapper and ready to step to the plate, if necessary. Luckily there was no need. With a good brush (that's another conversation) and a good soap, it was a great shave. Same as last time, I even skipped on the post shave product.

I did lather up the Stirling Island Man for a mock fourth pass (didn't actually shave). Immediately stung! Definitely a soap with some sort of reaction. Sad, as I like the scent... But for science sake, it's good to know I'm on target.

Regarding the brush... I have a G5C from a new batch (after APSC ran out and finally restocked). It is so much more 'pokey' than my other three... Sharp little pins, those tips. It was so bad, it got banished from the rotation. My 'daily drivers ' are now down to six. Of course, I have Five more in wooden handles for occasional use, as well as a travel brush brush and my one Boar (Fluffy Hexagon). No shortage here. Lol.

Have a great 4th everyone!

Glad you are getting it sorted!

Your brush collection is what I had hoped for, but alas, 18 (eight fricking teen!!!) is what I ended up with after my sale in June. I moved six to new homes. To be honest, I really like the 18 left. Maybe someday it'll decrease. I just don't need any more increases! But those 18 are in wire mesh drawer, and a friend in another neighborhood tells me this usually leads to multiplication, ha ha.

Happy Independence Day to you, as well!
