Just got my first shave in with the Claymore Evolution about 45 minutes ago and just wanted to do a quick write up while the thought and first impression was still fresh in my mind. The pics above tell of a pretty good kit though, upon a closer look there was a slight issue with the top cap edge being completely parallel with the blade. There is a slight deviation from one end to the other (if you look at my previous post and look at the 3rd pic down, you will see the discrepancy that I’m trying to describe here just above the blade to the right of the razor head from your perspective) that at first I thought was just my eyes playing tricks on me. But, upon looking at it further, there is a slight chamfer and the gap is slightly bigger from mid point on as it sits atop the blade fully tightened. I thought that this issue would have something to say once the shave began to more or less of blade feel but, if there was one, I didn’t feel or perceive the slightest of differences during my 3 pass shave that brought about a first rate BBS finish.

For a first time out it was a very enjoyable shave with just 3-4 weepers and that I attribute to just getting the razor down and accustomed to the shave angle that it requires for my particular technique. The shave angle is easy to get and maintain with a bit of blade feel but, nothing like the Claymore V2 which has reveal and exposure galore. The Evolution is much more toned down in that aspect and actually gives a smoother and softer feel on the skin. Yet it still cut the whiskers effectively without any of the potential harshness that the Claymore V2 had exhibited especially with any of the Feather blades installed. This feels closer to an IKON MR-SE than it does to the Claymore V2, only slightly smoother and a bit more forgiving if memory serves me well. The razor has some heft but, does feel well balanced and showed better than average maneuverability (I’ve been forever ruined with the nimbleness of the Vector) though the extra weight helped in keeping pressure to a minimum. The grip and feel is excellent rivaling some of the best out there in the handle knurling department. Handle attachment to the top cap stud is smooth and nearly effortless.

All in all it was a very good first outing with the Claymore Evolution sans the minor issue with the top cap not being grade A machined. For the price though and overall quality of the kit, it’s a wash.

A couple more shaves with the Feather then on to a Schick Proline….

*Edit: On a side note. Just to let my fellow shaving comrades know that I tried installing Feather Supers, Kai Captain, Pink & ProTouch Guarded blades and none of those mentioned fit over the blade holding studs, at least not on my Claymore Evo. If you’re not a fan of Feather AC blades, the only other option is the Schick Proline.

Okay, the one I ordered arrived yesterday, but I waited to open it until this morning. I had been adamant with Steve (owner of Alpha) throughout the pre-order and even after, that the Feather Professional Super blades fit as he had confirmed to me during the pre-order. This razor is a gift for my son and the last issue I wanted to deal with is a blade figment issue—and my son’s birthday was almost a month ago—so having to exchange the top cap for one that worked with the Super would have been a PITA and at that point I would have simply returned the razor and purchased something else as a gift for my son. Well…I can state, without reservation, that Feather Professional Super blades fit in an exacting manner and without issue when removing the Super blade, at least in the razor that I received. I disliked having to open the razor for the first time as it is a gift, but knowing that matters are correct is more important as I do not want my son being disappointed after receiving his gift late. The razor is beautifully made, a pleasure to hold, and just a great looking product overall!

This leads me to extend my heartfelt thanks to Steve, along with wishing him well with his hospital visit, as Steve delivered. I am more than pleased with razor and I know my son will be too.

Nope. Well I'm bummed. An otherwise nice razor is ruined in my world by not accommodating a Proline .[Image: 336728a404bbd0ad4640b902dd33dfbb.jpg]

Odd to not ensure they all fit as so many razors accept them all. Only other exception that bugged me was Occam's Oren not taking my favorite Proline Schick's either.

Mine won’t fit anything but the Feather AC pro, I tried the supers, prolines and Cpt.Kai, none fit. It’s a shame really, built like a tank and the finish was nice.

I was number one on the waitlist and didn’t pull the trigger when the purchase window opened up. No real reason other than I just wasn’t feeling it at the moment. Glad I waited on this one. I hope it works out for everyone else who grabbed one. It is a nice looking razor
