Quote:I take it you like it....and I know you have a ton of gear...so, how does the Sailor stack up? Top 10? Top 5?
The Sailor makes the cut, James.
My very highest ranking category for safety razors is my Daily Driver Category. The Rocnel Sailor is in that group.
Few razors make the cut. Other adjustables within my Daily Driver grouping are the Taiga and the Muramasa.
Frankly, I'd rank the three equally, but the Sailor is my favorite of the three because of its fat handle and because it appeals to me the most.
The Muramasa is a terrific shaving tool for me. I'd prefer for it and the Taiga to have fatter handles, but their handles aren't so thin that I object to them. The Muramasa might not have enough high end efficiency for some gentlemen. However, my whiskers are cut daily so I don't need a huge amount of top end. Areas of my skin are sensitive - I'm thinking here primarily of my upper lip - are require a very "mild" razor for S-N ATG work. These three razors meet my low end need in that respect.
It might be that the Taiga has a smoother high end than the Sailor. I've played around in the wild territory of both of course. I'm still determining whether I need to use setting much beyond a 360º rotation.
I'm largely a form follows function guy, but I also value aesthetics, quality workmanship, and top quality materials meaning actual metal. That means what I'm about to say is a somewhat strange comment. Yesterday I used for the first time a super inexpensive Chinese zamac razor and liked its shave a whole lot more than I thought I would.
I'm not saying the Snmirn adjustable can compete across the board with the Sailor and its peers, but it's a razor worth mentioning. It might become a Daily Driver candidate, but further shaves are required before I go too far.
Other Daily Drivers include the FOCS and the ATT CM1. The CM1 is of course on the mild side. Although I've not used an injector in a long time, my Schick open to clean E2 injector is another very hard to beat razor, and I shouldn't neglect to mention how great AC razors can be.
Some razors aren't Daily Drivers but I like 'em for what they are.
All that said, my 2021 RSMC razor is the DE I'm most likely to reach for on the way to the desert island.
Happy shaves,
Jim
