I exchanged emails with Murat yesterday and will order the MC Sailor. The WU site would not let me finish transaction and have to go to a WU to send the payment. Murat seems to be very easy to communicate with and responds very quickly. It was this or a WR2 in Ti. Given the praise by our merry band of enabler’s…..

Darktrader   it's a great day for a wet shaver when he can choose one of these nice Sailor MC razors or a Wolfman TI.

I don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised if Murat is now offering an optional stand for the standard 2022 model. There was probably an intent for a stand which at the time he shipped to Bullgoose he may not have had the capacity and time to design and fabricate - after all, the 2022 model has a hole in the base which seems designed to fit a stand. I view the Sailor as a continuously updated product - all fundamentally as good as each other, but with minor improvements incorporated into each production cycle.

To Razorboy’s question, I think any current version of the Sailor is a great product so you have nothing to worry about. Loot is right that the Master Collection versions tend to be good value (the price uplift is more than justified by the extra spec). Murat is pricing the 2022 Master Collection at USD 690. I don’t know what Razorboy is paying for the standard 2022 plus stand, but there is always the option of messaging Murat to change to the Master Collection - it just means the razor won’t arrive until April or May. If the price difference is not much then it probably is worth considering to change the order, but if the price difference is significant then there really is no need to pay for the MC upgrades, which will probably be mostly cosmetic.

I thought the same thing … stand razor appears to be included in the price.
Since it does not buy a piece like that every day the MC seems to me the correct choice.

in the meantime I buy some less …

Many thanks for reply

Murat wrote that he is now offering the stand separately for 50 usd and 490 USD for the Sailor or 690 Usd for the MC. You do get a cool box which is worth the price of admission for the MC.

That’s good info. Seems like there is good reason to get the standard razor with stand at USD 540. I’m sure the other enhancements for the MC series are worth the price too, but there is a significant difference, which wasn’t as much the case for the 2021 editions.

I can confirm that my 2021 MC and the 2022 Sailor I got from Bullgoose are identical in dimensions, finish and performance (posted elsewhere). The only visible difference is the numbered medallion on the MC and the hole in the handle base on the 2022 - in fact the weight is the same on both razors. Even the brass adjustment ring on the 2022 is to my eye virtually identical to the gold ring on the MC. I don't know whether the mechanism on the new MC would be different, but you couldn't go wrong with any of them - perfection is hard to improve! Tongue

Happy shaves,

Jim
I read your post about the Tatara. I only used that razor once, on 5. Even opened up it just didn't cut close enough for me. But as you postulated,  I am one of those that shaves every 3 or 4 days....if that. All that said, I still thing the Sailor will suit you even if you only use the 1st 50% of the dial.

I received my Rocnel (2021 MC) several weeks ago and have been enjoying it immensely.  A week after receiving it, I got the Tatara in the pass around.  I, like you, Jim, have been favoring milder razors as of late, and have found the comparison between the Rocnel and the Tatara to be quite interesting.  They are really different shaving experiences.  First, as to aggressiveness/efficiency, a 3 on the Rocnel is more aggressive than 3 on the Tatara. Without doing a side-by-side (which I might do tomorrow morning), I think a Tatara 3 is about a 2 or slight above 2 on the Rocnel.  But more than that, the Tatara is smooth and almost blade feel free at every setting at which I use it, no doubt a function of having both the gap and exposure changing.  By comparison, the Rocnel is more heavily weighted (which I like) and with some blade feel at nearly any setting above 2 (at 2 it is fairly, if not completely quiet).  I innately like the Rocnel much more, and my verdict on the Tatara is still out.  The Rocnel is just fun to use -- it's easy and clean, efficient and gives a great shave in the way I am accustomed from most razors.  I like starting at 3.5 and moving down .5 with each pass (a traditional three passes of with, across and against the grain) . The Tatara is effortless and lacking blade feel or feedback makes me feel like I can sprint through a shave without any likelihood of a nick.  Kind of like using a cartridge razor but with greater efficiency.  I'm a daily shaver and I could see it having a function in my cabinet for days when I've got to rush; but, then, my H&S N075 kind of works like that (love that razor -- for mildness, it remains my favorite).  The Tatara is a wonderful precision machine but it lacks character and, well, just isn't "fun."  So, my verdict is out on.  But it's been fun comparing the two and I'm keeping the Tatara for another week or two and will continue to play with it.  Also, I've found that the Tatara can take a sharper blade well, such as a Bic, and, to date, I've not tried a sharper blade in the Rocnel; so far it's just been GSBs, an Astra, and a Derby Premium (which I surprisingly liked).  Good luck with the Rocnel, I do think you can dial it down to a milder setting but I don't believe it will give you the same experience as the Tatara. Certainly, for me, it hasn't been.  However, I do believe the Rocnel to be an amazing razor.  In fact, I'm debating about whether to (quite unnecessarily) getting another, the new MC!

I routinely use the Sailor and the Muramasa in my morning shave, and concur with the absence of "blade feel" on the Muramasa, but between the two - to me - the 5 setting on the Muramasa is equivalent to a 3 on the Rocnel. And at 5 you're topped out on the Muramasa. Very different shaving experiences, but I like them both.
