2018 DFS LE - Brad Sears ShaveWorks custom brush

You guys are killing me!  I want one of these brushes with the fan knot so bad, but I have other obligations right now.  And, I'm a grown, responsible man.    So, I will show restraint.(maybe I can stay out of the dog house, too)

Brad ESBrushmaker, one thing about the DFS LE project, though, I will definitely be keeping you on the radar for a new brush sometime here in the near future.  You do beautiful work, sir!

Well, Scott CCity, it sounds like you just ordered the brush, so we have to give you some time.  But, you do know that we require picts of your new brush when they are available!  The Barrister is a really cool brush!  Congrats in advance!

Thanks, Rob! Pix will happen. I warn you, with Brad's help, I picked colors that are intended to reflect the burnt orange (and white) of the University of Texas, my alma mater. As I've got enough ivory handles already, the "white" is anything but. Any color issues are mine alone, as Brad simply went along, even though the customer is not always right. I'm still very excited about it, as I'm sure it will forever be unique among Brad Sears handles. And the knot and performance will be perfect, I'm sure. Hook 'em, 'Horns!

First off, Nancy and I are beyond delighted that everyone seems to be enjoying their new DFS L.E. brushes!

As you know, we came into this with an agreement to fill the L.E. handles with 25 Fans and 25 bulbs, and ordered knots specifically for them.

Since the Fans are sold out, we've decided to dig into our Shop Supply of the same 1804A2 Fans so that we can offer more of the remaining LE handles with fans at this time.  Please know that we are still sticking a total of 50 LE brushes.  So when the handles are gone....

I was on your site and wanted to check out although I have a few questions. The answers are there but not what I’m looking for.
1. What would you say is the significant differences of “select badger” and “Super Badger”
2. Are they both silver tip? There are many different knot terminology so I wanted to clarify
3. I do not know where you are located but is shipping to Canada an issue for your establishment?

I expect answer to number 1 to be subjective to your personal opinion as I am more than positive that you use your own brushes. At the moment I own a Shavemac D01 2 band, if you are familiar with this knot maybe you can use it as a reference to help me better understand or put some familiarity into the concept.

I wish I could compare our knots to the D01 Shavemac; but I haven't yet had the occasion to try one.  To answer your first question, I think the best I can do might be found at the bottom of our Knot Properties page Here.  Assuming you've already studied that page, I'm going to have to go out on a subjective limb and say the most significant difference I notice is that the 3-band Supers have a more substantial feel--plush, but without feeling like a wall of badger.  The tips aren't as soft as the Selects yet the Supers have a solidity to them that just (to me at least) speaks "confidence." Put another way, if I had to make do with just two brushes for the rest of my life, one would be a 28mm Super Bulb in our Knight handle and the other would be the current M&F Finest, again in Bulb shape, in an Emillion handle.  Pushed for a third, I would add one of our 28mm Select Bulbs in a DFS L.E. handle.  (Yes, I like the L.E. that much.)

As far as international shipping's concerned, a number of folks have used U.S.-based package forwarding services.

Thank you and sorry if my response is a bit delayed. The reason I ask is that awhile ago I had purchased the Kent BLK12 thinking this was the best brush on the market. I was new to wet shaving so it seemed I went for marketing and reviews more than I related what I wanted out of a brush. I was getting very nervous and agitated with this brush as it was a 31mm knot I assumed more knot more feel. The tips were the softest ever, but there was just no back bone. I was slapping my face with that thing rather than massaging. It was almost like I bought a paint brush. I’m not into that and sold the brush. They are great brushes, soft, very floppy, but not my cup of tea. So I went from one extreme to the next. I went to Shavemac and got myself a 2 band 28mm D01 silvertip with custom handle. I absolutely love the brush LOTS of backbone and after many uses the brush gets softer and softer. I am not telling you this to boast about Shavemac. I am telling you this because it is the only way to relate what I don’t like to what I appreciate in a knot. Do you think the select or 2band silvertip will be my best choice considering I aim more for backbone... I don’t want to lose the softness of the top and the knot selections are always confusing as they seem to all be similar names
Badger, best badger, finest badger, Manchurian badger, select badger, high mountain badger, silvertip badger I know there is more that I can’t remember but because my specifications are listed above I’d prefer to just be referred to the correct knot than continuously go back and forth trying to think. Is this for me?!
You’ll notice that I prefer the right knot before I care about the handle as I want the brush to be used and not a decoration piece

I appreciate your candor.  And frankly, I agree. I believe our handles are as good as any currently available; but absent the right knot, they're just pretty paperweights.

After reading a number of D01 reviews this morning, I'm going to suggest that if the D01 is your ideal, you will not like any of the knots we offer. Saying that, we can always fit a D01 into one of our handles; so if that's something you'd care to pursue, we can take this conversation off-line.
