Ever since i finally figured out how to shave i haven't been watching many videos anyway. I still watch Nick Shaves, he has a somewhat kind and professional approach. And i love watching TSE run his mouth ??

I like Nick Shaves and Geofatboy because I actually learned a lot about how to shave from them. I like Freedburgs reviews a lot because they're thorough. My only complaint on TSE is that he runs his mouth (which I don't mind really) but always keeps his comments disabled so no one can disagree. I'm not a fan of that at all.

Nick shaves is actually one I see complained about the most. People say he's bad for the wetshaving community. I got into wetshaving cause of him. Tse disabled his comments? Though lots of people do especially political channels. I get tse though, he gets on to enjoy and share his experience not necessarily create conversation. Lots of negative comments get to people eventually it'll burn you out faster.

I couldn't do it. I'm sure people would say my technique is wrong 0.o. But it gets me great shaves so how can it be wrong. Do the same people watch someone win game after game and say but their technique is wrong. But perhaps the same people who complain are the same ones who want to keep wetshaving to the few elites and so see getting more people into it as ruining wetshaving.

Oh yeah it's easy to armchair quarterback and personally I think it's lame. Also I'm with you Nick Shaves helped me get started wetshaving too. I think he does a good job especially since it's a hobby and he's a doctor full time.

"to the few elites."

I've heard guys comment on the forums about 'newbies' in not so nice a way as if they themselves are part of some elite few because they have over 100 soaps in their closets along with 5 Wolfmans. The definition of hoarders.

Yarn for a good homemade sweater can easily top the price of a Wolfman or OneBlade.

It's just shaving but some want to make it more than that. There's actually nothing elite at all about wet shaving.

Then perhaps those individuals need to leave the forums and stop discouraging others from taking up traditional shaving. That people would disparage and discourage aspiring wetshavers is unconscionable IMHO. My take is that the primary reason of having shaving forums is to disseminate knowledge and enable others to get great shaves. If some folks want to hoard, that is fine. It is their lives, their choices, and one viable approach of many to shaving. To claim it that such an approach is necessary or the only right way is incorrect, however. The self-styled "oracles of wisdom" should know that, assuming they actually know what they are talking about.

Max, you're awesome!

I almost never watch shaving releated Youtube videos anymore. I participate in a few forums, which have plenty of info and knowledge without being time consuming, as it is with videos. But, the youtuber I've been really enjoying watching and I think that helped many people in our hobby is George( Geofatboy). I also believe he's Greek. We have a quite similar beard and I used to agree with most of his reviews. A really cool guy. I like vendors who know what they sell, they have the same passion with their customers.

Also, it's no secret that many youtubers get free stuff from vendors/ artisans. It must be very difficult for them to say a negative thing about a product they received free of charge. I disagree with many reviews I've watched and I'd say that since they received it for free, maybe some lack of credibility. Who knows.

Tbone, thank you. I forwarded your post highlighting your last sentence to my wife.

Hopefully, she won't scream at me in her native Gaelic about finishing the dishes tonight! Wink

Not quite. While free product can sway you legally as a reviewer you're not supposed to let it. I've been given free smart bulbs headphones Bluetooth speakers Amazon products etc and I've always been fair in my reviews. Most people look for the feedback positive or negative to address it. I don't know about shave gear but it's the case with tech reviews for sure. Also you can't do a paid review for a product without disclosure it's against the law.

As soon as I see a compensated review I move on.  There's a reason they have to be disclosed.  While I do not deny your claim of honesty, a compensated review plants that seed of doubt and the review becomes worthless.  Whenever I do a review on Amazon, I make it a point to stress that I have not been paid or compensated in some other way.  That way, I owe the maker/seller nothing, not even a review.

Exactly and that's why it has to be disclosed I agree with you in full. The best way to present a sponsored product is to work it into your content and present the product rather than attempting a "fake" review

Good for you, Freddy! I consider compensated reviews to be fake. I have occasionally been asked to do fake reviews via PMs on other forums. Needless to say, such PMs go unanswered and are immediately deleted. There is no way I am going to sell out just to get free stuff. Apparently there are a lot of people out there who have fewer qualms. On Amazon, I have seen a number of reviewers who write very in depth and effusive reviews for a range of "donated" goods. So every last bit of that free stuff was 100 percent excellent? And those reviews read more like ads than bona fide reviews? Ok, whatever... Thank goodness for Fakespot.
