The video that jankdc posted of Steve Hardy's use of the OneBlade is how I understand the razor was meant to be used.
I've discussed this at length with the customer support team at OneBlade, and they confirmed that they recommend that the flat part of the razor be placed against the face, and to let the pivot automatically adjust to the perfect 31.3 degree blade angle to the face. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that angle, but I know that when I first got the OneBlade, I used it like I would any DE or SE razor, i.e., setting the angle myself
I found that by letting the razor set the angle by using the technique described in the video, I didn't have to think about technique for a second. I also can't vouch for the effect on the longevity of the blade, because, perhaps because of the habit of many years, I only use the Feather blade twice before discarding. Again, out of habit, I flip the blade after the first shave.
I've yet to try the GEMs-I've got some of the coated ones ready to be despined, and perhaps I'll re-read the SharpSpine journal on the OneBlade and his glowing reports on the use and longevity of the GEM to get me to find a pair of pliers and get to work
