Freddy, I've yet to push the GEM in the OneBlade but I'm working on it. There is a learning curve with how different this razor is to get the most out of the blade. I can easily get 20+ (even up to 30) with the GEM in most of the vintage SEs, especially the Clog Pruf and 1914. This current blade in my OneBlade has 11 shaves on it and it was as smooth today as it was on the first 5 shaves. This is the first time I've really tried to get some longevity from a GEM and it's going great.

My experience has been that the better my technique became with SEs, the longer the blade lasted. So my current experience with the OneBlade follows this thinking to the T.

Thanks, Brian, that is the answer I was looking for. Smile

The only time I encountered a similar result was with my streamline. I can get 6-9 shaves with the OCMM but I stopped at 4 with the oneblade as I felt
the blade was getting dull. Have no idea why though.

Interesting.  I guess it's the price of the razor that gets to me and I am in no way suggesting that it is a bad product.  I suppose I would at least like to be able to make it up on the blades I use.

Freddy---To me, the oneblade is the best razor I have ever used, period. Even though the razor is expensive,to me it is well worth it. I got my money back by selling all but 1 of my De's and I am going to eventually buy another oneblade for my head shaves. Believe it or not, I like the feathers for my face and the gems for my head. Smile . Seriously though I would not let the cost of the razor deter you from buying it as I feel it is worth every penny.
I have used the OCMM for over 20 years of shaving, considering it to be in my all-time top 3 razors and since buying the oneblade I haven't touched it.
If you can get the funds for it, do it. Don't forget they also have the 30 day money-back guarantee.

beisler, I have to be honest, I LOATHE the OCMM and if the OneBlade shaves like that then I don't want it.  For me, the OCMM is truly one of the great face eaters of all time. From other reviews, I got the feeling that the One Blade was a completely different beast.

IT absolutley is the opposite of the OCMM---It is a very mild razor that couldn't cut your face if you tried. The shave I get is extremely close with the oneblade and the longevity of the shave is unbelievable. I shaved with very aggressive razors BEFORE I got the oneblade and now I don't even bother with any other razor except the mongoose. My point was the oneblade made me leave all the aggressive razors behind but the oneblade is extremely mild

Thanks, Barry.  Now, if I could just get by that $300.00 price tag.  I am not one to buy something just because I know I can return it.  That's just me but it is what it is.  Perhaps they'll have a sale.  If it is ever in the $100.00 range then I would seriously consider it.  As it stands, I have too many razors that give me beautiful shaves (DE, SE, and Injectors) to warrant paying that kind of price.  I'm not saying it isn't a great product but I simply cannot get over that jawdropping Confused price.

I'm with Freddy and TSEvangelist on this one, though grim made some excellent counterpoints earlier in the thread. It isn't that I'm unwilling to pay a premium price for what is clearly a premium product, but rather that the price is unjustifiably high relative to other premium products such as the Wolfman and ATT systems. And not only is the hardware more expensive, but using their blade subscription service and the one-and-toss method would cost me the same amount for one month of blades as it would for one year of normal DE blades (with my average of a few uses each) using a typical DE system. In other words, by purchasing the OneBlade I'd be paying beyond a premium price for the razor, and increasing my blade upkeep costs by more than 10 times. If I were to purchase the blades in bulk, it may lessen the cost a bit, but upkeep would still be significantly pricier than with many alternatives.

As someone who is naturally interested in products like the ATT/Wolfman and in high end soaps/creams, I am not at all averse to paying a premium for premium products. But on the other hand, for the massive premium (on the unit and the blades) to be justifiable for me, it would have to offer a noticeably better shave than an ATT or Wolfman. Based on reviews I'm certain that the OneBlade is an exceptional razor, yet I remain unconvinced of the value proposition. $300 for a razor that is made in China (as opposed to something like the ATT or Wolfman, which are made in the USA/Canada) seems inordinately high. That said, I'm still considering it alongside the Mongoose and possible upcoming SE releases from ATT/Wolfman, as I'd eventually like to pick up a SE razor.

Value is subjective and in the eye of the beholder.  But what most people are failing to discuss is Stansberry's target audience. Look at the 1k version and the 2k version.  Just food for thought and discussion.

Got to love those $300.00 plus brushes with Chinese hairs, uhmmmmm, lol....

My wife hates me, not really, but I'm the kind of guy that if I like it, I'll buy it.  But I worked hard all my life to indulge, so sometimes I don't look at the sticker price.  Compared to my Wolfman's, the OneBlade is not an equal, but is a wonderful razor that the sticker price was ok for me.

Is nice to know we have so many choices to pick from.

I understand your position. However to me it does justify the cost. First of all, I know of or heard of anybody who actually used the blade subscription.
If you buy the Feather blades in bulk it is a lot cheaper. Furthermore,if you use the de-spined gems, you can get 8-10 comfortable shaves with it. I never had a DE blade last more than 5 shaves and the gems are cheaper than DE blades. Secondly,I have used the ATT H2, Ikon Shavetech, and many other higer-end,made in the USA razors and they were not nearly as close a shave as the oneblade for me,for you it might be a different story, but if you have never shaved with the oneblade you can't really compare it. I have been wet-shaving for a long long time (1970's),never have used a cart, and no razor has ever given me a better shave and when I say better,I mostly mean longevity of the BBS because I can get BBS with many different razors.

In my mind, if people will pay $179 for the ATT razor,or $300 or $400 for the set of all heads,OR pay $240 for a King Cobra, $300 for the oneblade is not much more,to say nothing for what they will pay for a toggle or streamline or any such vintage razor. I have shaved with most of these, and the oneblade beats them all IMO. I would love to try a wolfman as they get great reviews and I would buy one if I could but for me the oneblade tops all.Since you at least are considering it, I sure hope you try it because I was very very skeptical of the oneblade when I first heard about it. I read the ad propaganda, advertising, and I laughed at it. Then I kept reading about it on the various forums, bought it thinking I would send it back after 10 days and was shocked at what I discovered.

hrfdez I totally agree that value is both subjective and relative, though I'm not sure that the Chinese brush hairs analogy is compelling - badger bristles are not manufactured. In any case, I'm open to being convinced on this razor, but it would need to perform exceptionally well (at least better than other SE options) for me to find it worth the premium.

I can see that you don't find the OneBlade to be better than the Wolfman, but is it your best SE razor? Have you tried the Mongoose?

beisler Good post. That's my way, only I can make a decision if I like a product or not. The only way to do that is by trying. I don't understand how people can honestly pass judgement on a product without trying it first, but that's me :-)

I took the plunge on the OneBlade right at the beginning, so I took a bigger chance with little or not objective reviews. Most of the stuff written back then was jokes about it.

I have no regrets.
