The video that jankdc posted of Steve Hardy's use of the OneBlade is how I understand the razor was meant to be used.

I've discussed this at length with the customer support team at OneBlade, and they confirmed that they recommend that the flat part of the razor be placed against the face, and to let the pivot automatically adjust to the perfect 31.3 degree blade angle to the face. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that angle, but I know that when I first got the OneBlade, I used it like I would any DE or SE razor, i.e., setting the angle myself

I found that by letting the razor set the angle by using the technique described in the video, I didn't have to think about technique for a second. I also can't vouch for the effect on the longevity of the blade, because, perhaps because of the habit of many years, I only use the Feather blade twice before discarding. Again, out of habit, I flip the blade after the first shave.

I've yet to try the GEMs-I've got some of the coated ones ready to be despined, and perhaps I'll re-read the SharpSpine journal on the OneBlade and his glowing reports on the use and longevity of the GEM to get me to find a pair of pliers and get to work Smile
All the best,

Michael P, the GEMs deserve a chance even if you end up preferring the Feather. That's ok. It's all about why works best for you. For me it is the GEM, while for others it will be the Feather. Again, it's all good. But until you try the GEM, you'll never know if you are truly getting the best you can out of the OneBlade.

For longevity of the blade just look at my last two months. I used a single GEM PTFE blade for the entire month of June. I started a fresh blade at the beginning of July and I'm still on it as of this morning's shave. I see no reason why it won't finish out the month either. At this rate I'm using 12-15 blades per year (accounting for a possible of 3 dud blades a year. This will make my $35 investment in 200 GEM blades last for over 13 years. So that's less than $3 per year on blades. Take that cartridges! Big Grin

Hadn't thought of the oneblade as a way to save money.

Isn't that the #1 reason? Haha, no. The OneBlade is billed as a luxury item & so are the blades they recommend. I'm just fortunate to have found a blade that works great for me & doesn't suffer from the limited supply.

truth be told though, I think for folks like myself that have incredibly sensitive skin with the way the hair is shaved off, the oneblade could rid someone of constant ingrowns, bumps and irritation. of course you could do it cheaper with a razor like the feather as-d2, but man is the oneblade one sexy looking piece of metal!

I would say that there is a good chance that the OneBlade will be good for you with sensitive skin relative to the issues you mention. It may be that you like the Feather razor blades and it may be that you like the Gems. Either way, I'm guessing you'll be happy with it.

I agree. The OneBlade is with no doubt the most pleasant razor that I own, be SE or DE. I use the Feather blades and I'm very happy with it. I purchased mine right after they came out and it has been a very good razor. Well made and their CS is very good.

I don't have sensitive skin, but if I did, this is the perfect razor for it.

Overall I enjoy using mine. I have two nits to pick on the razor, first I just cannot get a decent angle when shaving right up against the bottom of my nose. I always seem to leave some stragglers I need to get rid of with another razor. Secondly, I still have a thing against razor heads that pivot. It can be a dollar shave club cartridge razor, it can be a $300 OneBlade. I just don't like pivoting heads. Overall though, a nice razor. Glad I got it during one of their promotions though as $300 is a tough nut to swallow for it.

Doug,

Our faces may be shaped differently, so I don[t know if this will help regarding shaving around your nose.

I start with a lathered face. I move the razor 1/2 inch or so away from my nose and tilt the lower side of the face of the razor away from my face, then lightly shave toward my nose. Not much of the blade is touching my face. I then shave upward, against the grain directly in front of my face and on each side, starting just below my nose. I have no stragglers with this.
